Average time to visit
The most popular time to visit the island for most visitors is in the summer, when the beaches offer healthy waves and the days are long. The season is generally from Memorial Day till Labour Day weekend. There are occasional rainy days even in the summer, but most days are sunny. There may be a morning or late evening fog that can be almost surreal as it envelops the town. The ocean breezes keep temperatures mild with rarely a blistering heat or major snowstorm in the winter.
Many visitors also enjoy the autumn months the most as September offers cooler temps and far less crowds. There is usually an "Indian summer" in October with a few beach days as well. The fall also offers lower rates, easier reservations, and virtually kid-free. The off-season makes for a good getaway, too, as many of the restaurants and shops stay open till the vacations.
The White Elephant Village encompassing a 20 room Inn and one to three bedroom Residences, is the sister property of the White Elephant Hotel. A short walk from Nantucket Town the village offers contemporary spacious accommodation and resort facilities.
White Elephant Village is found on Nantucket island which is 30 miles from mainland Cape Cod and easily accessible by flight or ferry. With its picture postcard main town of cobbled streets and handsome historic homes, glorious beaches, lighthouses, fascinating whaling history (one that inspired Moby Dick no less) and lack of chain stores Nantucket has long been the destination of choice for discerning travelers.
The White Elephant Village arose due to the popularity of its sister hotel, the White Elephant Hotel and the demand for additional top quality accommodation. Just a short walk from the hotel and from Nantucket Town, the Village is made up of a 20 room Inn and 25 Residences with one, two or three bedrooms. The exterior of the buildings which are spread throughout the pretty gardens is classic Nantucket - weathered shingles and white paintwork, but interiors are contemporary and packed with mod-cons.
Each of the 25 Residences features its own unique floor plan, and comes decorated with custom furniture, wool rugs, and artwork-as well as a selection of fabrics inspired by the natural beauty of Nantucket. There are one, two and three bedroom Residences each with a spacious living and dining area which has a pullout sofa that sleeps two comfortably making them appealing to families. The kitchen pantry is equipped with a small number of appliances to prepare a basic breakfast as well as a washer/drier. Guests of the residences and Inn enjoy exclusive use of the lobby for morning coffee and all-day snacks and a concierge service.
Unusual for Nantucket where there are surprisingly few swimming pools, there is also a heated outdoor pool and cabanas, as well as a fitness center, and complimentary adult bicycles, based on availability.
Although the Village doesn't have its own restaurant, guests receive discounted rates at the Brant Point Grill at the White Elephant hotel which is considered to be one of the premier steak and seafood restaurants in Nantucket and the place for Sunday Brunch on the island (make sure you try their interpretation of corn beef hash). Nantucket Town is a mere block away where you're spoiled for choice with excellent bakeries, cafes and restaurants.
The White Elephant Village has sophisticated rooms and suites dotted around its resort. Premier residences have either one, two or three bedrooms, a separate living area, a kitchenette, and a gas fireplace. The modern suites have separate living areas, the Inn Penthouse suite has a deck with outdoor furniture in addition. The Deluxe Rooms have either a king size or twin beds, an upholstered chair, a writing desk and a small refrigerator.
|1 Bedroom Residence||
Our 1 Bedroom Residences include a king bed with Pratesi linens, pillowtop mattress, master bath with Turkish cotton towels, separate tub and shower, living room with dining area, sofa sleeper, gas fireplace, and fully-equipped kitchen pantry.
Children are welcome to come and stay at White Elephant Village and there is a host of amenities to keep them entertained during their time spent here. There is a poolside ice cream cart, boogie boards, beach toys, board games, movies and popcorn sessions, Xbox and Wii. Cots and extra beds can be added to rooms and wipes, disposable nappies and creams are available.
White Elephant Village guests can dine at the sister branch's, The White Elephant Hotel, Brant Point Grill. Here, guests can enjoy some outstanding seafood and steak complimented by some fine wines. The service is exceptional and the harbor views breathtaking. During the warmer months, the Terrace is an idyllic setting to enjoy a sumptuous dinner or indulgent lunch.
Guests are also welcome to use the spa at The White Elephant Hotel where you can escape in to an oasis of tranquillity. There are a number of treatments on offer to help soothe the mind and relax the body to include a selection of massages, facials and other beauty treatments.
There are more than 80 miles of un crowded, pristine sandy beaches on Nantucket Island. Simply enjoy long walks, combing for seashells and other treasures, ask the hotel to pack you up a picnic or try your hand at body surfing, windsurfing or kayaking.
Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy endless outdoor activities like fishing, boating, biking, and exploring nature. Be sure to take a 4x4 trip to Great Point and visit the Wildlife Center and bird refuge. Go with a knowledgeable local guide or if you prefer to explore on your own the hotel will organize your jeep, fishing poles and a hearty packed lunch. Or if you prefer to explore on the water, why not own your own yacht for the day and tour Nantucket harbor and sound or cruise to Martha's Vineyard. Between June and October you might be lucky enough to spot whales in Nantucket's Great South Channel.
If no trip is complete without some shopping, Nantucket is filled with wonderful antique and collectable shops and boutiques. Local museums including the fascinating Whaling Museum are also a pleasure to explore.
On site, there is a pool, fitness suite, complimentary towels and beach chairs, complimentary bicycles (based on availability) and priority access to the spa.
Go surfing at Nantucket Island Surf School, the island's premier surf school offering lessons from Cisco Beach to all ages and abilities. All equipment is provided, including boards and wetsuits. Just show up in your costume and get ready for some fun!
