Located just a half-block from Jackson Hole's famous elk-antler-arched Town Square, The Wort is an historic hotel dating back to 1941, when Jackson's downtown streets were still dirt tracks. Today it's on the National Register of Historic Places, and little has changed on the exterior, including the red rock trim the Wort brothers quarried themselves in the Gros Ventre valley.
This hotel holds so much history from the whole town from the Silver dollar bar to the paintings and photographs on the wall to the old gambling table in the corner. As you walk in the entrance, you immediately feel like you are in the wild-west. It is easy to reach the ski runs from the Wort as they have a complimentary shuttle to take guests to the ski lifts with a return back to the hotel in time for the complimentary après ski hot chocolate, cookies and cider.
The Wort's fifty-nine guest rooms are cosy and the epitome of mountain-lodge style, with dark wood furniture, locally handcrafted bedspreads and original Western-inspired art by local wildlife artists.
The interior offers little touches of luxury; double-pillow top mattresses and Fili D’oro linens, a permanent art collection with nearly 100 original pieces by Western and wildlife artists; rich, deep colors; hand-carved suite doors and custom wooden furniture. Altogether, it has a Jackson Hole old world rustic Western elegance that is hard to find elsewhere.
The Wort has a great central location in Jackson close to the Town Square and on one of the city’s main streets Broadway Avenue. Downtown Jackson Hole’s best restaurants, like Local, The Kitchen and Snake River Grill are only a few minutes’ walk away. And we would definitely recommend the hotel's Silver Dollar Restaurant as it has a lot of local delicacies on the menu.
Guests can choose from some great après ski in Jackson town and Teton village but there will always be hot cider, hot chocolate and gooey cookies waiting for you every day in the lobby of The Wort. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar has live music most weekends, it also shows all of the sport on TV's dotted around so is the perfect place to act like a local; watch March madness on the screens and have some nachos with a Bud.
Just across the street from the luxury hotel is the Wort Plaza which has its own patisserie, Coco Love, run by culinary Olympian Oscar Ortega, who makes the best bonbons you’ll ever have; a great present to take home, if they make it home without being eaten!
Located on the border of Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole is dominated by the magnificent Teton Range. The resort is one of America's foremost ski destinations, with steep terrain that attracts some of the world's best skiers and free riders. The backcountry gates give access to over 3000 acres of additional ski area, which is accessible to expert skiers. The resort is home to Corbet’s Couloir – one of the world’s most well-known expert ski runs – sometimes called America’s scariest ski slope. Substantial investment in the lift systems over the past few years, and attention given to the intermediate skier. In the winter, the Wort is a great place to stay, as it is just one block from the main public bus or there is a complimentary private Wort shuttle to take you in to Teton Village.
The Wort is Jackson Hole's only downtown AAA Four-Diamond hotel. The Wort Hotel boasts fifty-nine guest rooms, including four two-room Western theme suites, and the grand Silver Dollar Suite. Whether it is dancing to bluegrass on a Tuesday or singing along to western on a weekend, the Silver Dollar Bar is a Jackson destination for live music. Jackson Hole has some of North America's most exhilarating skiing, and has a fairly consistent snow record. With steep gradients and acres of back country, it's a haven for free riders, strong intermediates and experts. The lifts at Teton Village are just 15 minutes away on the Wort's private shuttle, making access very easy. Skiers may want to take some time out to explore the surroundings, which is what makes a North America ski trip so special. Dog sledding, sleigh rides, cat-skiing in the neighboring grand Targhee, and snowmobiling in Yellowstone where you could pass moose, bison, elk, deer, coyote or the odd wolf or two, not to mention seeing geo-thermal features like Old Faithful, can all be easily organized and are well-worth it.
The Wort offers a dedicated concierge service for both summer activities and winter ski.
Location & Directions
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
In the middle of the Teton mountain range in north west Wyoming, Jackson Hole is remote but it’s surprisingly easy to access. Travelers from Europe can reach Jackson with only one plane change.
When to go
The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.
