Average time to visit

The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.

Located in the historic town of Jackson in Wyoming, the Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa benefits from a convenient downtown location and has its own private shuttle service to take guests to the world class skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Located on the border of Yellowstone National Park, the valley of Jackson Hole is dominated by the magnificent Teton Range with the old Western town of Jackson lying along the valley floor, just a short drive from the skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The Rusty Parrot Lodge is a small, intimate hotel with easy access to some of North America's best skiing and Jackson Hole is one of America's foremost ski destinations and regularly voted as the number one resort in North America. Its renowned steep terrain attracts some of the world's best skiers and free riders with the backcountry gates giving access to over 3000 acres of additional ski area, ideal for expert skiers. The resort is home to Corbet’s Couloir – one of the world’s most well-known expert ski runs and one every serious skier's bucket list. In recent years there has been substantial investment in the lift system and ski area to make the skiing more accessible to intermediates and families.

Jackson is home to tree-lined squares, art galleries, chic boutiques, craft shops and museums linked by wooden boardwalks. Rusty Parrot Lodge is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, and prides itself on its personal service.

Each of the thirty rooms come with varying views, with the owners suite and the fireplace rooms being among the most sought after. All rooms feature sumptuous beds and linens, flat panel satellite TV and complimentary wireless internet access and indulgent L'Occitane bathroom products. Not many of the rooms interconnect internally so we would recommend this lodge mainly for adults or older families.

The renowned Wild Sage restaurant features a seasonal menu incorporating the freshest local ingredients for breakfast and dinner. There is a superb wine list and guests can view the chefs at work in the exhibition-style kitchen. Although it is a very prestigious fine-dining restaurant, it really feels like you are eating in someone else's living room and you are being treated to the very best dinner party by friends.

There is also a comfortable lounge and bar, outdoor hot tub and deck with a cosy fire pits for during the winter months. They have recently renovated the Body Sage Spa and increased it in size substantially so hopefully now everyone can enjoy the impressive range of soothing spa treatments which is a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon after a hard day on the mountain. There are plenty of innovative treatments to soothe your aching muscles.

Jackson Town is a great place to stay when wanting to ski Jackson Hole Mountain resort as it is only 15 minutes away by car, but it also allows you to eat out in town and explore the old cowboy town of Jackson.

Jackson Hole has some of North America's most exhilarating skiing, and has a fairly consistent snow record. With steep gradients and acres of back country, it's a haven for free riders, strong intermediates and experts. The lifts at Teton Village are just 15 minutes away on the Wort's private shuttle, making access very easy. Skiers may want to take some time out to explore the surroundings, which is what makes a North America ski trip so special. Dog sledding, sleigh rides, cat-skiing in the neighbouring grand Targhee, and snowmobiling in Yellowstone where you could pass moose, bison, elk, deer, coyote or the odd wolf or two, not to mention seeing geo-thermal features like Old Faithful, can all be easily organised and are well-worth it.

Outside, this lodge doesn't look like anything particularly special but as soon as you step inside you are welcomed warmly by the concierge and everyone is very eager to help you right away. All of the little touches in this lodge from the cuddly bear on your bed to the cowboys on the wall to the brand new amazing spa really makes this an amazing place to stay.
