Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The best time to visit Charleston is during the spring, between March and August. The blooming Magnolia trees make for a picture-perfect city landscape and the temperatures are warm. The summer months of July and August can be incredibly hot and humid, so a few days in the city should be rounded off with a trip to the coast. Winter can be pleasant, but there is a slight chill in the air that deters most tourists.

Planters Inn is within walking distance to the city's main attractions and is well located in the main historic area of Charleston. Charleston offers horse-drawn carriage rides, elegant mansions and intriguing museums. The shops and restaurants of King Street are just a short stroll away, so guests will never be short of dining options. Nearby, historic monuments such as Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, make for a fascinating visit. A few miles from the city are a number of magnificent old plantation houses, such as the eighteenth century Middleton Place, Magnolia Plantation or Boone Hall.

Situated within a minutes of Charlestons iconic King Street, the Planters Inn immediately struck me as a hidden gem.  Upon entry you are greeted with friendly southern charm, the dcor is traditional and sophisticated, the walls adorned with antique oil paintings of the area and figures from the past. The Peninsula Grill within the hotel houses an exceptional original kitchen and the food is delicious, in fact the hotel is a long-standing member of the Relais & Chateaux an exclusive group of gourmet restaurants and boutique hotels which explains the incredible food.  Outside there is a quaint secret courtyard garden, the individual rooms are based around this feature which gives the inn a homely feel.  The rooms themselves are incredible spacious and are some of the biggest Ive seen in Charleston, make sure you dont leave without one of the handmade teddies, unique to the inn and a resident on the bed in all the guest rooms- a great way to remember your stay.
