Weather in Savannah is pleasant year round. The best time to visit is during spring, when the azalea flowers blossom around the historical squares and well-manicured parks. The weather at this time is warm, but not too hot. The summer months of July and August bring sweltering temperatures, so many locals escape to the coast for cooler breezes. The winter months are dramatically cooler, but temperatures rarely drop below 10 degrees.
Head up to the rooftop for a handcrafted cocktail and panoramic views of the city steeples
The Perry Lane Hotel is arguably one of Savannah's trendiest places to stay. Offering cool and contemporary decor and design in the heart of a historic city, this beautiful boutique hotel perfectly combines Savannah's storied past with modern style.
Lying equidistant from bustling River Street and the well-known Forsyth Park, The Perry Lane Hotel is a favourite amongst locals and visitors. Partnering with some of Savannah's most unique designers and local artisans, the Perry Lane offers guests something a little more whimsical. Modern in style, the hotel has adorned its walls with fascinating artwork from SCAD, filled its colourful library with original books and created beautiful spaces where guests can relax with a hand-crafted cocktail.
The hotel itself is enviably located in the heart of historic Savannah and is split into two mid-rise towers. Divided by a narrow lane, the hotels design plays with outdoor and indoor space allowing guests to move between the two to visit different aspects of the hotel. Guests can begin their day with a delicious breakfast at The Emporium Kitchen and Deli counter, stop by the Bowerbird Coffee shop to fuel up for the day and spend the early evening sipping a cocktail on the gorgeous rooftop bar, Peregrin. Affording panoramic views of the lush yet urban city of Savannah, the rooftop at the Perry Lane is a wonderful place to be, especially as the sun is setting behind the iconic church steeples.
Guest rooms and suites have been thoughtfully designed to create a home-away-from-home and a true retreat for those exploring the city. Oversized windows allow for natural light to flood in and gorgeous city views to be taken in. With eclectic furnishings, plush bedding and a cookie jar in each room, the rooms and suites at the Perry Lane are perfect for the modern luxe traveller.
The Perry Lane has 167 rooms ranging from Superior rooms to Standard Suites. Each guestroom and suite is individually designed with custom made bar carts, cookie jars from the Bird Cookie Company and beautiful contemporary furnishings.
Guestrooms are spacious and come with either a bathtub or a shower. Suites offer added luxury with lavish amenities and the best views.
There are three dining options at the Perry Lane and all feature fresh Southern fare. The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market is an all day restaurant featuring typical American cuisine. The Wayward Bar offers artisan cocktails, draft beer and a classic American Boilermaker, a beer cocktail typically served with a shot of whiskey.
Sitting in the heart of historic Savannah, Perry Lane is well placed to enjoy all Savannah has to offer. Stroll the city on foot, or hop on a trolley tour to hear tales of this bustling port city. Ghost tours are common and are an excellent way to understand local culture and history.
We arrive at Perry Lane amidst a flurry of activity. The hotel is a mere 14 days from opening and its all hands on deck as we enter the lobby. Off to the right, baristas are being trained in the coffee shop, to the left, discussions are being made as to the best way to display the menagerie of artwork that will add the finishing touches to this vibrant and exciting new hotel. We take the service elevator up to the top floor where the staff for the rooftop are unpacking glasses and spirits for a plethora of cocktails that will soon be enticing guests to the top floor. Looked over by brightly coloured gargoyles, just some of the eclectic art on display and a fun little touch to an otherwise elegant and welcoming space. Look out over the rooftops of Savannah whilst sipping a drink at the end of the day, laze in a hammock on the grassed area to the side or step up to the pool deck for a refreshing dip, surrounded by comfy sofas, its already looking very inviting. Back on the guest floors the bedrooms are fresh yet simple with artistic touches that make them interesting and in keeping with the styling of the hotel. The beds look incredibly comfy and although the rooms arent huge, they have a warm and welcoming feel. Downstairs guests can enjoy the bar and the teenagers will very much enjoy the fun packed arcade room. This is the perfect space to sit back, enjoy a cocktail and peruse the artwork on the wall (I was particularly intrigued by the goldfish with a shark fin on his pack and the diving pig) well worth looking out for. The restaurant is elegant yet casual, in keeping with the city which is at your doorsteps. Just a few steps in one direction brings you to one of the squares that adorn the city and River Street is just 6 or 7 minutes away for those night owls. Perry Lake is exciting, intriguing and very much alive, add to this what promises to be a unique hotel with top notch service and were expecting great things from this new addition to the city.
This new hotel oozes class and style. Only weeks away from opening it is clear that this boutique hotel is going to be the best Savanah has to offer. The situation is idyllic only a stones throw from Forsyth Park, dotted with historic oaks, Spanish moss swaying in the breeze and the iconic Forsyth fountain. Amongst the hustle and bustle of the busy staff scurrying around to complete the finishing touches before the hotel opens in a matter of weeks it is clear to see that dcor is serene and stylish. However, the hotels owners have stamped personal touches throughout, with individual art work and quirky touches at every turn such as colourful gargoyles casting a watchful eye over the rooftop bar. I have no doubt the Perry Lane Hotel is going to be a welcome addition to this traditional town, the thoughtfully designed rooms, luxury finishes, and stylish communal areas really hit the mark. If what I have seen so far is anything to go by I am very excited to see the finished product, watch this space!
