Los Angeles has a year-round climate. Santa Monica enjoys moderate to warm temperatures, averaging 20 to 25 most of the year. Summer (June - September) is the peak-tourist season, this is when the weather is hottest but beaches can be over crowded. January and February are the rainiest months. If you are visiting in May, June or July, watch out for the 'marine layer', a cloudy overcast, almost fog-like cloud which may affect the beach and first mile or so of the coastal strip, especially in the mornings.
Shutters on the Beach, in Santa Monica, perfectly blends a laid back beach house feel with all the little touches that make you feel pampered and privileged to be relaxing in such an idyllic location.
Located right on the beach, and with views over Santa Monica pier, Shutters feels very much like a grand private residence. It seems to blend old and new with ease, juxtaposing dark wood floors and old leather sofas with light, whitewashed rooms using sand and sea colors to give you that beach house informality.
The rooms all have private balconies or patios, some with superb sea views. You can let the ocean in by opening your beach-white shutters and stepping out onto your balcony. The room comes equipped with a suitable range of luxuries; flat screen TVs with movies on demand, iPod docs and rain showers.
There are two restaurants; One Pico, overlooking the sea, offers locally sourced fish and spit-roasted meats complete with an on site sommelier. Coast is a more informal offering, a great place to head for lunch, or a drink in the evening on the enclosed outdoor patio where heated floors keep you warm. The Lobby Lounge also offers light snacks and cocktails.
There is a lovely outdoor pool with views over the ocean, complete with sun loungers and cabanas. The spa is superb and run by Ole Henriksen (who pampers the A List Hollywood crowd) and also contains an expansive Fitness Center. The hotel can arrange all you need for a day out, such as bikes for rent for the family, to a beach pack which ranges from suntan lotion to an umbrella and beach chairs.
As well as having the beach on your doorstop, there are plenty of opportunities to shop on nearby Montana Avenue. For those thinking of a shopping splurge, head to Beverley Hills’ Rodeo Drive. The Farmers Market in Santa Monica is a great little excursion, as too a visit to Hollywood.
The guest rooms come with 42" LG flat screen LCD TVs, Entertainment Center, In-room library, Large whirlpool bathtubs, Peekaboo window, Balcony, Privately curated apothecary (with a charge for used items), Spacious bathrooms. This iconic California beach hotel is right on the Santa Monica boardwalk, with perfect views of the famous Pier. Its all about the location here, and you can see why the hotel is so popular. You instantly feel like you are in luxury beach house, with thought and class put into its decor. The lobby is a real highlight, we enjoyed relaxing here with a drink and watching the world go by. Make sure you spend some time in the evening enjoying the live music with a cocktail. Its an expensive hotel, prices varying from view to view - but its 100% worth pushing the budget for, and enjoying that famous view! We found the service impeccable yet not overly fussy, Shutters has a laid back edge about it with top end service. An amazing way to end a road trip in California.

Situated right at the end of Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, within touching distance of the Pacific Ocean, lies one of the most romantic yet uber-cool beach hotels in the United States.
You can smell the fresh sea air as soon as you walk through the lobby of Shutters on the Beach, owned by two visionary brothers eager to give the hotel a permanently family feel. The combination of the open lobby lounge, not to mention its welcoming reception team, makes you feel right at home in seconds. View the impressive collection of Hockneys, Lichtensteins and Gehrys while youre checking in.
Then its straight to your suite, chose one with a view of the ocean to watch the Californian sunset from your balcony. Inside youll find a treasure trove of luxury one of the comfiest beds youll ever sleep in, a bath so deep that you can lose yourself in it and even a bedtime book in case you forgot your own.
Restaurants 1 Pico and Coast offer enormous choice (try the green juice for breakfast to give you a healthy kick to the day) and the beach concierge knows everything there is to know about Santa Monica and funky Venice Beach and will also hire you a bike so you can ride alongside the hardened runners. Theres a beautiful pool, with free cabanas, if the thought of leaving Shutters is just too much.
If you have to leave the hotel, take the complimentary hotel limo and try family-run Ado in Main Street possibly the best Italian restaurant in California.
For pure relaxation, in what feels like your own home, it doesnt get any better than this beachfront paradise.
