Los Angeles has a year-round climate. Summer (June - September) is the peak-tourist season, this is when the weather is hottest but beaches can be over crowded. January and February are the rainiest months. If you are visiting in May, June or July, watch out for the 'marine layer', a cloudy overcast, almost fog-like cloud which may affect the beach and first mile or so of the coastal strip, especially in the mornings.
To start planning your vacation to Oceana Santa Monica
The Oceana Santa Monica is a delightful boutique oceanfront hotel offering a homely and laid back feel, yet utterly gorgeous and stylish at the same time, and with superb above-and-beyond service.
The Oceana Santa Monica is a hop, skip and a jump away from Santa Monica beach and located right on Ocean Avenue, and many of the rooms have superb sea views. There is a heated lounge pool in a central courtyard where you can sit back and relax, and is the main focal point of the hotel, as well as offering sumptuous al fresco dining.
The vibrant and colorful rooms and suites have everything you want; keeping with the home from home approach. They are larger than most (starting from 500 sq. ft.), giving you the space to sit back and enjoy your time at the hotel. The Signature One Bedroom Suites and Deluxe Rooms both look inwards, towards the inner courtyard and pool, whereas the remaining three room categories have increasingly splendid ocean views. All have super large plasma TVs, and little touches of indulgent luxury that continually impress you.
The staff are superb at the Oceana; many guests seem to come back remembering someone who really went above and beyond and that nothing was too much trouble. It is something that at Scott Dunn we really love to see and know our guests hugely appreciate the care at which they were looked after.
The Oceana always seems to have a nice touch up their sleeve, like providing rental bikes with locks to wander off down the oceanfront road, or providing backgammon, chess and checkers games for rare occasions when the may not be all that good.
There is a small modern gym, with everything you would want, and in-room Spa treatments are offered.
70 Rooms, including 58 Suites. The Deluxe Rooms offer loft-style bedrooms with a sitting area overlooking the inner courtyard; the Signature One Bedroom Suites also offer inner courtyard views as well as a living room and bedroom therefore giving you ample space, especially if you have children with you. The three ocean facing categories start with the Partial Ocean View Room, before rising to the larger Ocean View Suites with living room, and the Signature Ocean View Suites with a private balcony.
Children are welcome with the option of getting extra beds (or sofa beds in the Lanai Suites). Some rooms can be interconnected. You are not far from Santa Monica Pier with its rides and the UCLA Ocean Discovery Center, an educational aquarium. The beach (7 minutes walk) is always a treat, and for older children surfing lessons can be arranged. The hotel have children's menus and can get outsourced babysitting (about $50 an hour). The hotel are unable to provide cots for the youngest children.
The services on offer include Wifi throughout, laundry, valet parking, in room spa treatments, rental bikes.
The hotel overnight parking charge is $36 per day which is typical of many Santa Monica hotels.
Recently reinvented, Oceana is now home to new restaurant Tower 8 by Two Star Michelin Chef Josiah Citrin. Acclaimed designer Anthony Baratta has celebrated Oceana’s signature coastal charm, using warm woods, sumptuous fabrics and graphic patterns to create an elegant, ethereal dining area.
From bohemian boutique shopping on Abbot Kinney Venice Beach to designer retail on ritzy Rodeo Drive, walking the Hollywood Stars and exploring nearby hip neighborhoods from West Hollywood to Silver Lake, Cycling along the ocean front or cruising down to Malibu Beach, to touring Beverly Hill’s celebrity homes to hiking up to the Hollywood sign and thrill rides at Universal Studios and concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles is a bustling city of fascinating downtown and beach front neighborhoods and endless summer fun.

I love the beachy, neighborhood feel to the Oceana Beach Club Hotel. Welcomed with a glass of prosecco in the light and airy 'lobby', you can see through to the courtyard and pool, and immediately know you've entered a sumptuous haven. I use the word lobby loosely as it is not your standard hotel lobby, but more of an entrance hall, and you do definitely feel you've arrived at a relaxed and retro beach club.
Located on Ocean Avenue in the heart of Santa Monica, the hotel once housed Hollywood elites which explains the large, apartment-style suites. Ideal for a long weekend, the rooms are beautifully fresh and colorful. The Signature Ocean View Suites are particularly heavenly with private balconies from where you can watch the incredible sunsets, and spa bathrooms featuring a rain shower and separate deep bath tub.
Complimentary daily yoga in Palisades Park (just across the street) overlooking the Pacific, followed by an Oceana pressed raw juice is a perfect start to the day. If you don't fancy using the running trails through the park, Oceana has a small but well appointed fitness center and beach cruiser bikes to borrow. Also on offer are daily guided hikes in the Temescal Canyon and Santa Monica mountains, and surf lessons every weekend.
This hotel characterizes the relaxed, carefree charm of SoCal's surf crowd, and its ultra laid-back vibe definitely rubs off on you!
