Nestled at the base of Aspen Mountain, the Sky Hotel has an atmosphere unique to the resort. No ordinary hotel, it is famous for its après ski and its mantra is to chill. Even the staff are relaxed, although always friendly and very attentive.
The lively 'ski lodge' feel is echoed by the abundance of animal print and unusual decor. The funky lobby is filled with six feet tall white leather sofas and armchairs, and the interiors are colorful and bold. "Mood" red lighting in the lifts leads to leather walled corridors lit by lamps with furry shades.
The 39 Degrees bar is the focal point for Aspen après-ski. This is where beautiful staff mix with celebrities and the partying can be vigorous. It describes itself as the hippest bar in town, where locals and skiers alike hang out. The food served is here typically American and the cocktails are not to be missed. After you've enjoyed your "Altitude Adjustment" hour between 5pm and 6pm where you'll be served a complimentary variety of wines and appetizers, make a bee line to the mixologist!
Right outside by the bar, you'll find a heated pool and hot tub - both often full as the evening gets later and a little more riotous, with playboy style parties.
There is a 24-hour gym, and the hotel has partnered with the Aspen Club & Spa where guests can indulge in a wide range of beauty treatments and massages.
The Sky Hotel is definitely a place worth experiencing, and you'll need to reserve a little energy after your day on the slopes. This is one we recommend for couples and friends who like to party!
Rooms and suites are in two wings. One wing has inside access and the other has outdoor, covered access. The inside wing rooms are smaller but have balconies. All 90 rooms and suites are small and decorated in a contemporary style, with black and white photos of the landscape on the walls. Guests can relax in animal print bath robes and explore the unusual contents of the mini bar!
There are no childcare facilities at the Sky Hotel, and we would recommend it for couples who like the party side to a ski vacation.
The Sky Hotel has an outdoor pool and hot tub, as well as a 24-hour gym and fitness center. They have a partnership with the Aspen Club & Spa which has good facilities, including a pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub and a gym, where guests can receive a good selection of treatments.
There is an onsite ski rental shop, where guests can leave skis and boots overnight.

When to go
The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.
