Primarily a fishing lodge, Dalton Trail can also introduce budding or experiences anglers to some truly fantastic fishing spots with over 20 lakes within easy reach. Some are within a few minutes, others much further with a long hike in and possibility of staying overnight at a trappers cabin.
Whilst the accommodations are relatively simple, guests have everything they need with comfortable rooms or larger cabins with wood burning stoves. Each room has it's own private bathroom, something that isn't always so easy to find in such a wilderness area.
Haines Junction is the nearest town, around 20 minutes drive away and offers just a couple of restaurants and no shops at all. The vastness of this area and the isolation is always apparent yet the big skies, the towering mountains and the whole feel of the vastness is truly captivating and explains why people return again and again.
Your hosts, Hardy, Trix and Thomas, truly make each stay memorable. Their warm hospitality, extensive knowledge and genuine interest in their guests makes them superb hosts. The cuisine is also surprisingly good for a lodge so isolated with the on site chef cooking up a storm ensuring guests are always well fed and satisfied.
Although not the most luxurious lodge, Dalton Trail has truly embraced there guests and gives a slice of Yukon life, as it is, without heirs and graces, just warm, homely, hospitality.
Please note that due to the nature of the lodge and the environment it is in, there are some stuffed and mounted creatures within the lodge.
The accommodation at the lodge is split in to 20 guest rooms and four cabins. In keeping with the fishing lodge nature of the experience, 8 of the rooms are for single guests.
Each of the rooms is comfortably and simply furnished with a private washroom.
Some of the cabins are larger and offer a lounge area with stove and kitchen facilities, these would be the best option for families traveling together.
The lodge will welcome children, however it is an adult orientated environment and there are no facilities for children or interconnecting rooms available so we advise the lodge only for older children.
There is a comfortable lounge with open fire and TV for guests use as well as a dining room with buffet style dining and a pub style bar which is a welcome spot for a drink and conversation at the end of each day.
Dalton Trail Lodge is most known for it's superb fishing and many guests head hear specifically to fish and packages are available for this. The location particularly lends itself to this activity with 20 lakes and 12 different species of fish all within easy reach. Some areas are only accessible by foot, ATV or float plane making them unique and prime spots for fishing.
For keen hikers, Kluane National Park is a dream, with trails for all abilities from simple walks through to 3 day hikes and beyond. The lodge has access to a small cabin on Frederick Lake and it is possible to hike in there for a few days and enjoy the simple pleasures of a wilderness experience.
