Housed over three 19th Century classical buildings, although Place d’Armes is a large hotel this is cleverly disguised in a small and intimate feeling lobby offering a fusion of sleek contemporary feel and historical ambience. Guests can enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel’s 701 restaurant which turns into a cosy urban lounge bar later into the day and evening, popular with the locals who enjoy an after work tipple there. During the summer, the hotel’s rooftop terrace is the place to be, offering a buzzing vibe and a great place to unwind after a days sightseeing. The underground Aix Cuisine du Terroir Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and is acclaimed for its ever-evolving menu of seasonal local Quebec and Montreal gastronomy.
Also worth some time to enjoy is the hotel’s RainSpa, a compact little spa on the 3rd floor of the hotel, especially popular at weekends. The guest rooms and suites are surely this hotel’s most stunning feature with many of them with exposed brickwork and combining cosy warm tones with the latest in technology. The suite bathrooms are especially decadent with huge amounts of space and decadent free standing tubs.

When to go
Any time of year is good for a visit. Summer draws the tourists. The crowds create fascinating street life and a buzz wherever you go. And in turn, the city really pulls out the red carpet for visitors: everyone from musicians to acrobats to actors in period costume take to the streets. There's also terrific festivals and oodles of special museum exhibitions and tours. Fall and spring bring beautiful colors, dramatically reduced prices and thinner crowds. And in the winter, Caribou, an alcoholic drink enjoyed by the early settlers, is sold everywhere to keep people warmed up. Even in the darkest and coldest months of January and February, Quebecers have found a way to have fun: throwing the annual Winter Carnival, arguably the biggest, most colorful and most successful winter festival around.
