At the end of an 8 kilometer track, you would be forgiven for not realising you had reached Arowhon. Tucked into the pine forest on the edge of a tranquil lake, the cabins blend in well with the nature of their environment.
There are no pristine lawns or paved pathways here, Arowhon is carved into its environment, ensuring a back to nature experience with as little impact on the environment as possible. The main heart of the property is the grand dining room, complete with cathedral ceiling and huge open fire, inviting and warming on cooler evenings. Surrounding the dining room is one of Arowhon’s most popular spots, the wrap around deck, complete with relaxed chairs and hummingbird feeders, this is the place to sit and view the magnificent scenery around you and watch for abundant bird life and the occasional passing moose.
Days at Arowhon are all about being outdoors. From hiking one of the trails around the property to paddling a canoe out beyond the lake to the meandering waterways that connect on and on and on. Enjoy a game of tennis on the lakeside courts or on warmer days dive into the pristine lake waters for a bracing yet refreshing dip. If you wish to venture beyond the property, the main highway is 10 minutes away and gives access to a huge choice of hiking and biking trails, fishing and canoeing. This is also one of the best areas for Moose viewing and these fascinating and graceful beasts can often be seen grazing at the side of the road early in the morning or as dusk settles.
Back at Arowhon, all meals are included during your stay and this is a relaxed and social occasion where guests can mingle and discuss their day. This is not mandatory though and if you prefer to dine as a family or couple alone this is happily accommodated.
Accommodation at Arowhon is rustic yet comfortable and definitively Canadian. Guests can choose from private cabins or a private en suite as part of a larger cabin with a communal lounge, perfect for more sociable guests. For couples wishing a romantic escape we particularly recommend the suites that are nestled into the hillside with private decks overlooking the forest and lake. A cosy bolthole just for two.
Arowhon Pines offers an authentic Canadian log cabin experience with the benefit of wholesome and delicious food prepared freshly on site. There is no licence here so bring your own wine to accompany dinner. Luxury it is not, but the whole experience and that amazing lake view truly is 5 star.
Arowhon Pines offers 50 rooms spread over 13 rustic log cabins scattered along the shoreline. Each cabin offers between two and twelve bedrooms, making them ideal for family groups. The larger cabins also offer individual en suite rooms for couples and then a main communal lounge with cosy log fire. There are also some more private one and two bedroom suites with their own lounge and private deck. Each room offers its own en-suite bathroom, electric heat, bathrobes and hairdryers. In keeping with the tranquil surroundings there are no TVs or radios and no WiFi.
Families are very welcome to come and stay at Arowhan Pines. However, there are no specific childcare facilities or babysitting available at the lodge. The lodge is more suitable for older children who can enjoy the outdoor lifestyle of the experience.
The lodge offers a large communal dining room with open fire and outside deck perfect for reading or watching the bird and wildlife. All meals are included in guests' stay although the property is not licensed so guests need to bring their own alcoholic beverages of choice. Morning coffee and muffins for early risers and afternoon tea with cake and scones is provided each day. Hearty picnic lunches are also provided. Internet facilities are available although these are basic computer usage rather than WiFi.
