Manitoba has a typically dry climate with very distinct seasons that have sharp temperature changes. During the winter months, temperatures can be as low as -40 degrees celsius, and in the summer months, temperatures of 38 degrees celsius are not uncommon. The snow is deeper than 1cm for over 130 days of the year, so the region is known for its long winter and snowy conditions. Despite the coldness, skies are often completely clear and due to very low levels of pollution, stargazing and northern lights viewing are excellent nighttime activities.
Located in the heart of Polar Bear country, Lazy Bear Lodge creates a welcoming and friendly atmosphere; the log cabins built from locally-sourced wood offer an authentic Churchill experience where guests can discover the local wildlife.
Guests staying at The Lazy Bear Lodge enjoy a truly authentic experience; hand-crafted over ten years, the exterior is built with logs harvested in the surrounding area, while inside is created from rescued local materials such as timber from old church and the glass from an 1800s Hudson Bay Trading Post. The character of the lodge is further enhanced inside by the use of local stone to complete the walls and the impressive fireplace.
Each of the 33 log cabin rooms are designed to create a comfortable, welcoming experience and provide two double beds, en-suite bathrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi and cable TV. The Lazy Bear Café, popular with locals as well as visitors, is the perfect spot to enjoy home-grown and freshly-prepared meals after a day out exploring.
Your days will be spent exploring the flora and fauna around the town as well as on the Hudson Coast where you will be able to find a variety of local wildlife; for the best Churchill experience take part in a professionally guided excursion. Summer visitors are likely to encounter Beluga Whales at sea as well as Polar Bears whilst those visiting in the Autumn can jump aboard an arctic crawler to take part in an adventure to discover the area and the numerous rare species which inhabit it.
Each of the 33 rooms has been hand-crafted by owner Wally and his family. The rooms have a private bathroom, double bed, coffee machine and complimentary Wi-Fi.
The on-site café at Lazy Bear Lodge offers a comfortable and authentic environment to enjoy the freshly prepared dishes prepared by the team. Owners Wally and Dawn have also added a greenhouse which allows the Chefs to offer home-grown produce as the perfect accompaniment to local meals such as Braised Peppered Elk or Arctic Char. Please note that no alcohol is served in the café.
There are many activities to enjoy whilst staying at Lazy Bear Lodge, all of which include making the most of the wildlife that can be found nearby. You can take part in guided expeditions to see Polar Bears, Beluga Whales, Arctic Hares and Foxes, or you could even kayak or aquaglide with the Belugas.
