At this altitude (2240m above sea level), Mexico City and its surroundings rarely get too hot therefore can be enjoyed at any time of year. The hotter months of May and June, and the rainy season (June-September), when the capital experiences a downpour most afternoons may want to be avoided. Pollution is in maximum effect in the hot, dry season of spring, from late February to early May.

Insider's View

It would be a crime to not enjoy every sunset over Puebla during your stay from their rooftop bar. A margarita is the perfect accompaniment to a panorama of volcanos and church steeples.

Enjoy a tequila tasting in the Los Lavaderos bar - where history meets slick, modern sophistication. In a converted former laundry the masculine lounge is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy premium tequilas with an expert, and learn more about the iconic spirit. Casa Dragones is a must try!

To start planning your holiday to Hotel Azul Talavera

Paying homage to Puebla's colonial heritage, Hotel Azul Talavera (formerly Rosewood Puebla) is a meticulously designed hotel, boasting traditional talavera tiles and beautiful exposed brickwork to flawless effect, embodying Puebla's character perfectly.

Tastefully reflecting Puebla's colonial roots, Hotel Azul Talavera (formerly Rosewood Puebla) is a luxurious hotel in the centre of this wonderfully preserved historic city, a short walk from its UNESCO protected heart. Cobbled streets meet vibrantly coloured houses, cafés and boutiques, while picturesque churches dot the skyline (365 of them to be precise).

The hotel itself has just 78 guestrooms and suites, each exquisitely decorated with modern furnishings and antique style touches. Each room boasts carefully chosen details; antique blown-glass windows separate bathrooms from bedrooms, original mosaic tiles grace the floors and period lamps, four-poster beds and beautifully preserved hand-set stone walls complete the look. Many are outfitted with an incredible stand-alone tub and separate rainforest shower, with robes and slippers on hand to cosy into following a soak.

As well as three different dining options, Hotel Azul Talavera affords a casual rooftop bar and terrace with fantastic city views, also home to the hotel's swimming pool. This is the perfect spot to come and unwind after exploring Puebla on foot, and on a clear day guests are treated to distant views of the city's surrounding snow-capped volcanoes. At just a 2-hour drive from Mexico City's airport, Puebla is a wonderful place to begin your Mexico journey and recover from an international flight, and its relaxed atmosphere and picturesque streets invite you to wander and discover all that makes this such a magical place.

There are fantastic and varied dining options at Hotel Azul Talavera, with something to suit everyone. The main dining hub is the open-kitchen setting of Pasquinel Bistrot, mixing European flavours and local ingredients in a mouthwatering fusion. For something a little more casual, Café Azul Talavera offers a brasserie-style menu of smaller plates and salads, with craft beers and Mexican wines to accompany dishes. Bar los Lavaderos sits inside the remains of a 19th Century wash houseand is a sophisticated bar and lounge serving delicious tapas dishes and a fine selection of fine liquers, spirits and premium mezcals and tequilas.

Other facilities include a rooftop bar and terrace where guests can enjoy light dishes and a selection of premium drinks in a relaxed setting, either at the bar or relaxing on loungers which surround the pool and make the most of the hotel's city views. Puebla is renowned for its proud and rich history, and its streets are lined with churches and colourful homes which demonstrate beautiful colonial architecture. Explore on foot and visit some of its 365 churches, art galleries and museums, elegant boutiques and numerous local restaurants. Puebla is also known for its rich warming cuisine and more commonly, Mole Poblano, a delicious sauce which often accompanies meat and is full of flavour. Try it out or even get stuck in with a cookery class. We can also arrange Talavera tile painting workshops and visits to the great pyramid of Cholula and surrounding villages.

The hotel balances luxury whilst still seamlessly fitting into Puebla's historically and culturally rich identity. This hotel is made up of a group of traditional Poblano houses (some parts of it dating back 300 years!) around a central courtyard, and maintains all the character of the original features - such as charming exposed stone work or cobbled paths, juxtaposed against beautiful contemporary elements, making it a really exciting hotel to simply walk around in, but made even more comfortable with their luxury services and facilities. The rooms themselves are comfortable and stylish - abet lacking some of the character of the main areas of the hotel, but are spacious, bright and fresh. The breakfast is one of the best I've enjoyed in Mexican hotels and service throughout is consistently good - friendly and helpful. The real jewel is its amazing view of the city from it's pool bar at the top of the main building, it's modern and super chic - the most beautiful contrast to the baroque features visible from the stunning panorama on offer.
