The Arenal Nayara is an elegant hotel with beautifully decorated casitas and suites and incredible views of the majestic Arenal volcano. Paths wind through lush gardens filled with tropical flowers to a pool with a swim-up bar and attractive open-sided restaurant above.
Each of the fifty casita and suites have been designed to provide the utmost in romance, comfort and style while maintaining a close connection with the natural surroundings – monkeys, sloths and toucans can be spotted around the property. On clear days you can see the magnificent Arenal volcano from the pool and the majority of the rooms. Each freestanding Casita Deluxe and villa boasts canopied beds, a large deck with a jacuzzi and hammock and has indoor and outdoor showers.
The Arenal Nayara also boasts an impressive award-winning spa offering treatments using the best of Costa Rica's natural ingredients including volcanic mud. There are open air massage bungalows where you can be soothed by the sounds of the forest and a beautiful custom-made jacuzzi by the river.
Dining options abound at Arenal Nayara with open-sided Altamira restaurant serving a mix of Costa Rican and international dishes, the Kali Kali pool bar serves snacks and cocktails, Sushi Amor mixes Peruvian and Asian flavors and Nostalgia is a beautiful wine and tapas bar which also offers tasting menus matched with Latin American wines.

All or the 50 rooms at Arenal Nayara are free-standing, which make them private and romantic. The Deluxe casitas have a king bed with a canopy or two double beds, a wooden deck, jacuzzi and hammocks and a bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower. The Nayara suites are more spacious with a King size canopied bed, enormous bathrooms with stunning indoor and outdoor showers and wrap-around decks with a jacuzzi and hammock. Added extras include free international phone calls in all of the rooms and complimentary laundry when staying in the Nayara suites.
Children are welcome, and the hotel is family friendly, but there are no specific children's facilities and none of the rooms connect. The Deluxe casitas and Nayara suites can fit extra beds for children.
Facilities at Arenal Nayara include a small outdoor pool, spa with open-sided treatment rooms looking out onto the jungle, thermal water-filled pools and a wide choice of dining options - Altamira restaurant serves gourmet Costa Rican fare with an international edge and on Saturdays offers a popular seafood grill, Nostalgia wine bar has tapas and wine pairing dinners and a state-of-the-art wine dispenser, Kali Kali pool bar serves snacks and cocktails and at Sushi Amor sushi is given a Latin twist. .
Arenal has become a mecca for adrenaline junkies and those wanting to be active. Activities close to the hotel include hiking, horse riding, kayaking, canoeing, hot springs, canyoning, mountain biking, zip-wires, hanging bridges and canopy tours, ATV tours and Arenal National Park excursions and new to the area is Fly Boarding on Lake Arenal. For those with something more sedate in mind there is the spa, hot springs and bird-watching.

Arenal Nayara is 10km (15 minutes) from the town of La Fortuna de San Carlos, close to Arenal Volcano National Park in northern Costa Rica.
When to go
November to April is the best time of year to visit Arenal and is the 'drier' season in Costa Rica. The ‘green’ season is from May to September, which sees tropical showers most afternoons. The quietest period is April to early June. The rain can be particularly strong in September and October. December to March is high season and hotels do get booked up months in advance so best to plan early.
