A collection of luxurious, eco-friendly bungalows set on one of Costa Rica’s most celebrated surf beaches
Barefoot luxury feel with spectacular sunset views
Just a short walk from the laid-back coastal town of Santa Teresa
With a warm climate most of the year, the Nicoya Peninsula is known for its great weather. However, during the rainy season from April to November most of the roads can get quite impassable due to rivers washing them out. Mid November trade winds from the north-east arrive, marking the end of the rainy season. The following months these offshore winds, called Papagayo, relief the heat and provide perfect surf conditions. Sunshine is guaranteed during the high-season months of January - April. During this long and pronounced dry season many trees and shrub drop their leaves which makes it easier to spot animals.
In May a mellow rainy season follows which the tourism industry has dubbed the Green Season.
It's the time of the year preferred by eco-tourists as nature is verdant green, sunsets multi-hued, and many hotels offer low season rates.
Taking its name from the ancient Chorotegan word for blue, Nantipa is a boutique beachfront retreat, set right on the sands of the famous surf beaches of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula.
Situated in one of the world’s five ‘Blue Zones’ and inspired by the spectacular natural beauty that surrounds it, Nantipa is a laid back, luxurious boutique hotel set right on the sands of the Nicoya Peninsula. Embodying the Costa Rican lifestyle concept of ‘Pura Vida’, this elegant yet pared back collection of beachfront bungalows has direct access to the famous waves of Santa Teresa, a Mecca for surfing fanatics. Surrounded by national parks and nature reserves, there are no shortage of activities on offer at Nantipa. Horse ride on a local ranch, head out fishing with the locals, zip line through the canopy of the Cabo Blanco National Park or try your hand at surfing amongst some of the best waves in the world.
Just 15 bungalows are spread out across Nantipa’s tropical gardens. Chic and pared back in design with whitewashed walls, muted tones and black accents that add an architectural touch, they personify the barefoot luxury philosophy that pervades this quiet stretch of coastline. Rattan furniture, woven hammocks and tropical foliage add to the quintessentially coastal vibe, with direct access to the beach and turquoise waters of the Pacific. The Ninta bungalows each have a large terrace with private pool, hammock and outdoor seating area, many with views of the tidal pools and pounding waves, whilst the Nanku Suites offer extra internal space, an additional bed and large living area. Every stylish room is equipped with climate control, flat screen televisions, dining areas and high speed WIFI.
Nantipa’s restaurant, Manzu, sits right on the beachfront with prime sunset views and a soundtrack of the crashing waves. Built under a wooden structure and thatched roof that harks back to the structures of the Chorotegan people, this laid-back haunt serves up fresh, exciting food combining international flavours with a Tico twist. The bar is fully stocked with local beers, a selection of wines and expert mixologists are at the helm, ready to make sundowner cocktails from fresh local fruit and liqueurs.
A small bungalow down by the shore is the current home of the small spa, offering an array of treatments overlooking the ocean.
Nantipa is perched on the tip of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, within walking distance of the laid-back surf town of Santa Teresa. The hotel is within a 35-minute drive of the airstrip at Tambor, with its connecting flights to San Jose International Airport.
