Tortuguero can be visited year round for wildlife however when you visit will probably be determined by whether, or not, you wish to see turtles and where else you will be visiting in Costa Rica.
The Green Sea and Hawksbill turtle’s nesting season runs from July to October with the peak in August, and the Leatherback turtles nest from February to April. The Caribbean side of the Cordillera Central has a different weather pattern to the Pacific. Tortuguero’s ‘drier’ season is February to June and September and October however being tropical please expect showers at any time.

This intimate new hotel offers the only true luxury accommodations in Tortuguero. The large rooms are plush and well-equipped, with two queen-size beds, high ceilings, wood floors, tasteful local furnishings, and a host of amenities you won't find anywhere else in the area. I prefer the second-floor rooms, with high peaked ceilings and exposed wood beams. Meals and service are top-notch here, and they even have the only spa (albeit small) of any local hotel, as well as an on-site art gallery. The amoeba-shaped pool is set just off the dark waters of the Tortuguero canal, with a broad deck and plenty of inviting chaise longues surrounding it.
