Previously known as Machaca Hill, Belcampo Lodge is located 10 minutes away from Punta Gorda in the southern Toledo district of Belize surrounded by pristine rainforest in a 11,000 acre reserve.
There are 16 beautifully appointed hillside suites with large screened verandas allowing guests to experience the sights and sounds of the rainforest canopy from the privacy of their own room. Each bungalow is spacious with air conditioning and ceiling fans and a shower room with floor to ceiling windows with views out across the jungle as you bathe. The cabanas epitomize the concept of indoor-outdoor living. Vaulted beamed ceilings, terra cotta flooring, all natural textiles and bench-crafted furnishings further emphasize the fusion with nature.
There is a lovely swimming pool and small spa for relaxing after exploring the region, and a private tram can whisk guests off on a ten minute ride down to the Rio Grande River below, where a small gym is also located. From here, you may also embark on a tranquil river cruise.
Beyond the pool lies sweeping gardens, as well as a communal fire pit. The main lodge is the heart of the resort with observation decks open to stunning vistas of the coast and Maya Mountains. Telescopes are at the ready for spotting wildlife.
The food is a huge part of the Belcampo Lodge experience and it draws inspiration from Belize's unique cultural and natural diversity. On the farm they grow as much of their own produce as possible and have a planned Agritourism center. Food is dependent on the season, and only the freshest ingredients are put on the plate. The lodge owners are committed to protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
You can spot a wide variety of bird and wildlife on site with their expert guides and the lodge arranges a diverse range of excursions throughout the area from cultural excursions such as visiting Mayan ruins, to snorkeling, chocolate tours, nature hikes, night walks, fly fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving.
Belcampo has 16 beautiful suites which project out over the canopy from where toucans, hummingbirds and iguanas can be spotted. The bathrooms offer an 'at one with nature' experience with a glass wall looking out over the jungle.
Light-filled and spacious, the suites have vaulted beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, lots of polished wood, natural fabrics and artwork sourced by local artisans. There are jungle king suites or jungle suites with two queen-size beds, two deluxe suites and four new spectacular ridge suites with stunning views from the Maya Mountains to the Caribbean sea with outdoor soaking tubs and access to a 40’ salt water infinity pool. The suites have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, sitting area and wireless internet access.
Although there are no specific facilities for children, Belcampo welcomes families. There are two queen beds in the suites which is ideal for a family of four with two smaller children. Children will be enchanted by the wildlife and chocolate tours and visits to Mayan ruins and local communities. For those with an active streak, there is swimming, kayaking, biking, snorkeling and zip lines nearby.
Belcampo practices a farm to fork concept, and is almost entirely self-sufficient with food grown and produced on its farm and supplied by local growers. Many of the exotic ingredients are native to Belize so for the intrepid foodie, this is the place.
Dining at Belcampo is a relaxed leisurely affair. Apart from the main dining area, guests can eat al fresco on the wooden deck, or even on the banks of the river, accessed by the lodge's funicular. There is also a rum and coffee bar where you can savour Belize's best. And if that's not enough guests can participate in culinary courses which focus on the production of coffee, chocolate and rum.
