Ambergris Caye, like most of Belize, has a sub-tropical climate. There are two seasons in Belize- winter (Mild and relatively dry) and summer (Warm and occasionally hot and humid. The official monsoon rainy season is June through August). Summers in San Pedro Town and the other Cayes strung out along the Barrier Reef are much milder than on the Belizean mainland, due to the proximity to the Sea and the cooling effects of the easterly trade winds and cloud cover which hold temperatures in the high 20's/ low 30's.
The busier time of the year for travelers to Belize is November to May, which are the winter months of the Northern Hemisphere. Still, many visitors prefer the more quiet days of the summer months from June to October for their vacation in Belize. Both times of the year have their own unique attractions.

Matachica is a laid back and secluded rustic chic hideaway nestled between swaying palms and pearly white sand beaches on the north side of the beautiful island of Ambergris Caye off mainland Belize and reached by boat from the town of San Pedro.
Matachica Resort & Spa is located 5 miles north of San Pedro surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and marine wildlife and within easy reach of Belize's Great Barrier Reef, one of the finest diving spots in the world.
Matachica has a very individual Caribbean style and is made up of brightly colored thatched roof cabañas, housing 26 rooms with contemporary rustic-style furnishings, spacious bathrooms, air conditioning and hammocks.
The atmosphere is very relaxed with large open living areas and a lovely award-winning restaurant serving fresh seafood, amongst other dishes. The beachfront bar offers the perfect place to unwind or why not watch a film in the Cinema-Martini lounge.
Indulge in a rejuvenating massage and spa treatments at Matachica’s Jade Spa, swim with nurse sharks, turtles, and stingrays or enjoy a variety of day excursions including snorkeling, scuba diving, river trips to the Mayan ruins and fishing.
There is sea grass in front of Matachica’s shores, which makes swimming or snorkeling from the beach not really possible. We therefore recommended that guests swim off the jetty or head out by boat for an ocean dip. Sea grass is a natural occurrence and a vital element of the ecological marine world as many ocean species thrive on it to survive.
Set on a secluded stretch of natural white-sand beach facing the world’s second-largest barrier reef, Mata Chica Resort & Spa offers a choice of 31 intimate rooms, including 25 single casitas and one two-bedroom villa. All villas are uniquely decorated with hints of Central American motifs and original art collected from around the world. Each is privately located and includes Matachica’s distinctive features of large traditional mosaic bathrooms, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, private patios with hammocks, Matouk & Frette linens with feather duvets, bathrobes and daily maid service. All rooms have private safes. Please note there is no Wi-Fi in the rooms.
Children over 16 years of age are welcome at the hotel.
Matachica Resort & Spa offers guests a spa, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, pool table and internet area.
Mata Chica Resort & Spa offers complimentary activities such as canoeing, windsurfing and kayaking. Activities at an additional charge include spa treatments, snorkeling, fishing, scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing, jungle adventure tours and tours to the Mayan ruins.
This is one of the more northern resorts on Ambergris Caye, and in many ways, the hippest. There's a sense of rustic luxury throughout. Artistic details abound, with an eclectic mix of fabrics, sculptures, ceramics, and paintings from around the world. Every room here is actually a private bungalow or villa, and all can be considered junior suites or better. My favorites are the casitas, which are the closest to the ocean and feature a large sitting area, a king bed on a raised platform, and an interior garden shower. The four bungalows are listed as having sea views, but they are set back a bit, and that view is mostly a glimpse through foliage and the gaps between the casitas. Set back even further, but set high on raised stilts, are two very large villas, and one immense mansion. The latter is over 465 sq. m (5,000 sq. ft.), and features three bedrooms, a full kitchen, three full bathrooms, a huge living room, and ample deck areas and views. There's a little outdoor pool surrounded by shady palm trees, in addition to a large outdoor Jacuzzi. There's also a small spa, with a full list of treatments and cures, as well as a full-service tour desk. The hotel has a martini/Internet bar, as well as an excellent restaurant, Mambo.
