Jake’s is a small boutique hotel with lots of personality and charisma. It is located in Treasure Beach, a secluded fishing village. Theatrical designer and owner Sally Henzell created the colorful cottages and gave them each a unique design drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix of Jamaica, Mexican and Catalan styles. All the cottages are steps away from the Caribbean Sea and hotel facilities where guests can sunbathe on the neighboring beach or around the saltwater pool or go one of many adventurous activities. The Black River Safari along the Great Morass, home to more than 100 species of birds, a bounty of tarpon and snook and the Crocodylus acutus, is a great one for families with older children.
The food is delicious and typically Jamaican using lots of spices and seafood. There is a poolside bar run by Duggie who is known for his wicked rum punch and concoction of the day. Duggie keeps the bar open until the last guest goes to bed, whatever time that may be! Its laid back character and seclusion attracts a diverse mix of guests from celebrities seeking privacy to adventurers looking for a vacation off the beaten path.

Treasure Cot has been home to some serious Treasure Beach history. To begin, this sweet, two bedroom/two bathroom cottage was built by Joyce and Basil Densham, Sally Henzell’s parents, back in the 1940s. Today, the cottage retains its original charm but with all modern amenities. Best of all, Treasure Cot sits directly on the beach, steps from some of the area’s best swimming, a few minutes walk from Jakes. Perhaps this was what appealed to author Alex Haley when, back in the 1970s, he wrote his masterpiece—Roots: The Saga of an American Family—while ensconced in this very villa. Twin beds, Queen bed, A/C, Full kitchen,
Housekeeper/Cook included, Verandah, Ocean front

This deluxe accommodation, with its stupendous sea view, includes, Master bedroom with king-size bed and adjoining bathroom, Second bedroom with queen-size bed and adjoining bathroom, Third bedroom with twin beds and adjoining bathroom, Fourth bedroom with twin beds and adjoining bathroom, Infinity plunge pool, Outdoor Jacuzzi (off master bedroom) A/C, Outdoor dining/barbeque area and stargazing deck, Full kitchen, Wireless Internet and satellite television, Access to all Jakes amenities (Media Room, snorkel equipment, restaurants, bar, etc.)

When to go
Offering warm temperatures throughout the year the Caribbean is a perfect year round destination. With an average of 9 hours sunshine a day the peak season runs from December through to April which is the dry season when you can expect very little rainfall. May to November are the slightly wetter months where you will find an increase in rainfall as the summer season goes on and with that some humidity, however the Summer months are still a great time to travel as the temperatures are hot and the rain tends to come in short heavy bursts but not all day long. The wettest months with the most humidity are September and October and these are the most probable months for hurricanes to occur in the region although many islands have not experienced hurricanes for a number of years. The average daily temperatures range from the mid-seventies in the winter months and mid-eighties in the summertime.
