Offering warm temperatures throughout the year the Caribbean is a perfect year round destination. With an average of 9 hours sunshine a day the peak season runs from December through to April which is the dry season when you can expect very little rainfall. May to November are the slightly wetter months where you will find an increase in rainfall as the summer season goes on and with that some humidity, however the Summer months are still a great time to travel as the temperatures are hot and the rain tends to come in short heavy bursts but not all day long. The wettest months with the most humidity are September and October and these are the most probable months for hurricanes to occur in the region although many islands have not experienced hurricanes for a number of years. The average daily temperatures range from the mid-seventies in the winter months and mid-eighties in the summertime.

Peter Island was larger than I was expecting, with so much space and natural surroundings to explore. This is a low key, five star, private island with superb service levels and facilities. I loved the natural feel of the island with stunning views of the surrounding islands. I particularly liked the Beachfront Suites which offer direct beach access. There are five gorgeous beaches including Honeymoon Beach which is aptly named as it offers such a romantic setting and guests can reserve the beach for a morning or afternoon to enjoy all to themselves.

As far as islands go, Peter Island certainly manages to fit in a whole lot of wow factor. What strikes you immediately is how immaculately looked after the island is. It's storybook beautiful here, with miles of white powdery sand, hidden coves, swaying coconut palms and glittering ocean dotted with sailboats. Peter Island is located 20 minutes by boat from Tortola, on 1,200 acres of lush tropical landscape tumbling toward the sea. The resort has a 2:1 staff to guest ratio and never hosts more than 116 guests at one time, and I was lucky enough to be one of them. The resort has 52 rooms facing the main beach and a collection of super luxurious hillside villas. Falcons Nest which is situated 350 feet above sea level is particularly world class and boasts 6 bedrooms, a private chef, housekeeper, butler, gym and infinity edged pool! Down in the resort, the beachfront junior suites are perfect for couples wanting to be away from the harbour. If I had to choose my favourite beach then it would have to be Deadmans Beach (supposedly named after some unfortunate pirates), where there are hammocks strung between the palm trees and its only a short stroll to the bar and restaurant. Days can be filled with every activity you can imagine: water sports (non-motorised, to keep the peace), heavenly spa treatments, cycling and tennis.
