Offering warm temperatures throughout the year the Caribbean is a perfect year round destination. With an average of 9 hours sunshine a day the peak season runs from December through to April which is the dry season when you can expect very little rainfall. May to November are the slightly wetter months where you will find an increase in rainfall as the summer season goes on and with that some humidity, however the Summer months are still a great time to travel as the temperatures are hot and the rain tends to come in short heavy bursts but not all day long. The wettest months with the most humidity are September and October and these are the most probable months for hurricanes to occur in the region although many islands have not experienced hurricanes for a number of years. The average daily temperatures range from the mid-seventies in the winter months and mid-eighties in the summertime.

Biras Creek has a natural and rustic feel which is in keeping with the overall atmosphere of the British Virgin Islands. The rooms are really comfortable with an understated feel - nothing flashy. Biras Creek has two main selling points for me. One is the excellent food and superb wine list and the second is the dramatic scenery and views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Sir Francis Drake Channel. I loved the panoramic view from the restaurant, which is located at the highest point of the property so you get an amazing 360 degree view of the stunning vista. All the rooms come with bicycles - a great way to get around the resort and down to the natural beach.

There is something quite special about Biras Creek. It may be its location, nestled between two hills in an isolated region of Virgin Gorda, where theres no danger of urban distraction - theres nothing here for miles and miles. The only access is by helicopter or boat. Perhaps it is the fact that the resort is surrounded by three distinct bodies of water, the enormous protected lagoon of the North Sound, the open Atlantic Ocean and the dazzling Caribbean sea. Most would say you get the best of all worlds here. The pace of life at Biras Creek is wonderfully relaxed and guests are encouraged to treat the resort as a second home and make full use of the dramatic scenery, secluded beaches and excellent sailing. The majority of the suites enjoy shoreline views overlooking Berchers Bay and others slightly more inland. Berchers Bay is really part of the Atlantic Ocean, and so is a bit wilder and more turbulent than the other, more protected bays. Bicycles are a popular way to get round the resort and there are specific dirt tracks and signposts to make life easier. Remember to slow down for the giant iguanas that also use these tracks! If you prefer being on the water than you are welcome to hire a Boston Whaler to explore the North Sound at your own leisure. The main restaurant is located at the highest point on the property and offers panoramic views and mouth-watering Caribbean and French inspired dishes however, if you would prefer something less informal than I would highly recommend cycling down to the local restaurant, The Fat Virgin to sample the flying-fish sandwich, conch fritters and reasonably priced beer.
