Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Offering warm temperatures throughout the year the Caribbean is a perfect year round destination. With an average of 9 hours sunshine a day the peak season runs from December through to April which is the dry season when you can expect very little rainfall. May to November are the slightly wetter months where you will find an increase in rainfall as the summer season goes on and with that some humidity, however the Summer months are still a great time to travel as the temperatures are hot and the rain tends to come in short heavy bursts but not all day long. The wettest months with the most humidity are September and October and these are the most probable months for hurricanes to occur in the region although many islands have not experienced hurricanes for a number of years. The average daily temperatures range from the mid-seventies in the winter months and mid-eighties in the summertime.

Insider's View

Curtain Bluff has one of the most extensive wine cellars in the Caribbean

Opt for a room on the bluff - these have amazing views of the ocean and you can listen to the sound of the waves lulling you to sleep at night

Enjoy some delicious cakes and afternoon tea on the Sugar Mill Terrace whilst listening to the sounds of the Caribbean banaquits!

The all inclusive package also includes scuba diving, as well as all watersports and fishing.

Enjoy the beach BBQ every Wednesday with a live steel band.

Attend the manager's cocktail party located at the owner's house, right on the edge of the bluff with amazing panoramic views out to the sea.

My favorite spot is the relaxation area at the spa, where you can enjoy chilled champagne, beautiful views of the neighboring island of Montserrat, and when it gets too hot, you can cool off in the plunge pool.

Do your PADI course before you travel so you can take full advantage of the complimentary diving

One of the best positioned gyms I have seen with panoramic sea views.

Two beaches to enjoy; one slightly more sheltered than the other

The Surf Beach is both the wilder and quieter of Curtain Bluff's two beaches. There are no facilities on this beach - just a few hammocks and loungers that are ideal for some quality time with a book.

Description

In a stunning location overlooking two beautiful beaches, Curtain Bluff Antigua has superb sporting facilities. Offering friendly and typically Caribbean service, with a wealth of amenities, this luxury resort is ideal for families with older children.

One of the Caribbean’s original luxury hotels with its fantastic location on a private peninsula on Antigua’s southern shore, with the relatively calm Caribbean on one side and the wilder Atlantic on the other. Curtain Bluff is renowned for its exemplary level of service; impressive sporting facilities and of course the wine cellar, which is home to 450 wines from around the world!

The hotel offers seventy-two stylish rooms and suites with large terraces or balconies. The Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites and One Bedroom Suites are just steps from the beach while the Executive Rooms and Suites are up a number of steps on the bluff offering superb views of the stunning beach and ocean. There is an elegant open-air main restaurant for all meals as well as the Beach Club for lunch and refreshments during the day. The cuisine is continental with a local blend of Caribbean flavors and a different dinner menu each evening. There is also a weekly beach party luncheon and nightly entertainment.

For the active, sporting facilities include tennis and squash courts, a huge array of water sports as well as complimentary yoga classes. For those who want to take time out, there is a fantastic new Spa situated on the bluff overlooking the water with treatments to help you relax and rejuvenate complete with an open air lounge and plunge pool for pre or post treatment.

There is a complimentary children's club here with a fully qualified English Nursery Nurse and activities are exciting and creative, rather than centerd around a play room.

Accommodation

Curtain Bluff has 72 spacious guest rooms and suites that run along the palm-shaded, white-sand Surf Beach and rise up the rocky promontory that gives the resort its name. It features 18 Deluxe Rooms, 5 Executive Deluxe Rooms, 40 Junior Suites, 1 Terrace Room with Jacuzzi, 6 Executive One and Two Bedroom Suites, and 2 Grace and Morris Bay Suites. Rooms follow a simple yet elegant tropical style, have floor-to-ceiling windows and either ground floor balconies or verandahs with breathtaking oceanic views, complete with all the modern luxuries from air-conditioning and over-sized Jacuzzi baths to wood-panelled ceilings, and high-speed Internet.

Deluxe Room

Deluxe Rooms are a short walk down a shaded pathway from the bar and restaurant. 9 rooms are on the beach level, with spacious terraces that lead straight out on to the sand, and 9 have verandahs looking out over the sand and sea to the distant headland. All have contemporary dark-wood furniture, white bedcovers and colorful accents that evoke the colors of the sea.

Junior Suite

Junior Suites are spread through three-storey villas right on the resort’s Surf Beach, just a stone’s throw from the water. All have sunken living rooms and separate bedrooms with elegant sea-grass sofas and armchairs, accented with rich blues and greens that mirror the colors outside. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors lead on to verandahs and terraces looking out over the sea, palms and lushly forested shoreline.

The grand marble-and white-tile bathrooms have double sinks, big tubs and large, open-walled showers.

One Bedroom Grace Bay & Morris Bay Suite

These suites occupy the third floor of a Caribbean-style villa, right on the resort’s surf beach. Both are luxuriously furnished with blue-marble bathrooms, colonial furniture, richly colored fabrics and lush palms. The bedroom and adjoining living room lead out on to a sweeping verandah with sun-chairs and a Jacuzzi, the perfect place for private sunbathing or cocktails under the stars.

The suites can be linked to a Junior Suite to create a two-bedroom suite. Extended groups and families can take over the whole floor (four bedrooms).

Bluff Room

Set into the rocky edge of the bluff, their spacious terraces look out over both the sea and the resort’s Surf Beach. Rooms are decorated with natural-wood and sea-grass furniture and bright, natural colors.

These can be combined with an Executive Suite, creating the perfect space for two couples or a family.

One Bedroom Bluff Suite

Overlooking the Surf Beach but a few steps higher up the bluff, these are more private and secluded. Their split-level interiors are light and airy, decorated with natural-wood and sea-grass furniture and bright, natural colors. Alongside the large living room, there is a sun-drenched garden patio with a hammock. Upstairs there is a breakfast nook and a 16-foot-wide dining terrace that make the most of the panoramic views.

Terrace Room

The unique Terrace room is the most popular choice for honeymooners thanks to its private location at the very top of the bluff and breathtaking views over the beach, Morris Bay and the Caribbean Sea. White walls, bright sea-blue fabrics, one-of-a-kind furnishings and glowing woods give the room a sense of calm and timeless sophistication. Its large 567-square-foot terrace with an elevated Jacuzzi is the ideal spot for private relaxation and dining.

Childcare

Curtain Bluff have recently launched their new Kids Club called CEEBEE. It is available on a complimentary basis for children between the ages of 3 years and 10 years and offers a variety of activities to keep the kids entertained whilst you relax in the sun. Operated by an English qualified Nursery Nurse this operates between the hours of 9am-12pm and 1.30pm-4pm, meaning children can dine with their parents at lunch. The Club is a roaming based club where the children explore the resort and beach and take part in outdoor activities including T shirt painting and sports. There is a children's playground located on the beach.

For older children at the resort, there are plenty of sports activities to keep them occupied including Sailing and Windsurfing, diving, water-skiing, and the opportunity to go on snorkeling and fishing trips, play tennis, basketball, squash, bocce and shuffleboard as often as you want, at no extra cost.

Early dinners for children are served outside on the Tamarind Terrace at 6:00 PM. Babysitters (arranged for an extra charge) can then look after children back in the room for the evening.

Facilities

Facilities at Curtain Bluff include two restaurants, two bars plus poolside and beach service available, tennis courts, squash court, putting green, lawn croquet, gift shop, scuba dive center, free form swimming pool, Spa and beauty salon.

Curtain Bluff is a great family resort with loads of activities on offer. Non-motorized water sports are included in the All Inclusive Package.

No TV in the rooms means you can spend that quality time with the family but don't worry because there are 2 TV rooms at the resort to relax in.

Curtain Bluff is spread over two beaches; the calm Caribbean side where the water sports are operated from and then the dramatic Atlantic side.

Guests stay on an all inclusive basis which also includes water sports; sailing and diving included!

Around for almost half a century now, however Curtain Bluff was a real hit for me. I love that you have two vastly different beaches with the dramatic waves of the Atlantic to one side and the calm Caribbean sea where you can swim in the calm waters.

There are so many activities here so for those who don't just want to be horizontal for a week this is the perfect place and almost everything is included in the All inclusive, from Pilates to diving.

The kids program here is fabulous and much more creative than just a simple play room with lots of outdoor activities and sports based fun. There is also a kids playground which I know this would keep my two children entertained perfectly whilst my husband and I could enjoy lunch as it is cleverly positioned close to the beach and the beach restaurant.

Whilst the rooms are not the most modern, I liked the simple Caribbean elegance and the Grace Bay and Morris Suites have wonderful outdoor living spaces. The Spa was the highlight here for me with a beautiful open air lounge with incredible views out to Monserrat. I think that compared to other properties Curtain Bluff can look a little higher priced initially however the inclusions in the All Inclusive are great value and mean you do not leave with a ridiculous bill so the initial outlay is well worth it.

Curtain Bluff is great for active families. The all-inclusive package includes a whole range of watersports, including daily snorkeling trips to the beautiful Cades Reef, and for certified divers, Scuba diving is even included! There are also extensive tennis facilities with several tennis camps held throughout the year, and a really beautiful spa where you can relax afterwards. Their recent addition of a children's club is perfect for families with younger children

One of things I love about Curtain Bluff is that all the rooms are located right along the beach or on the bluff allowing a lovely sea breeze into your room, so there is no need to use the air conditioning. Curtain Bluff is located near to Cades Reef - one of the best snorkeling spots in Antigua. As this is an All Inclusive resort, your snorkeling trips to the reef are all included in the price.

All rooms have sea view and the higher up the bluff the better the view! - this resort also offers the most amazing spa -

4

Gemma Dobson (Staff)

The suites located on the bluff offer the most fantastic view and the sound of the waves crashing can be heard from your balcony, as this is the more rugged beach and not suitable for swimming its often deserted as most people use the hotels other beach so its a great beach to go for a walk or jog along or relax in one of their hammocks with a good book!
