&Beyond Matetsi River Lodge provides the utmost in safari luxury whilst blending seamlessly with its surrounding natural habitat. With 17 miles of private riverfront access the suites all offer uninterrupted views across the Zambezi, ensuring guests truly feel a sense of privacy while staying at Matetsi. Add to this the 50,000 hectare private wildlife concession and appreciate how remote and exclusive Matetsi River Lodge is.

Matetsi River Lodge is made up of two camps, both with nine suites, as well as Matetsi River House, a private 4-bedroom villa which is perfect for larger families. The sleek modern design of the assorted buildings is enhanced by the theme of wood and copper running throughout, paying homage to Zimbabwe's mining history. The suites are encompassed by repurposed local materials as a nod to the region's traditional fishing and basket-weaving customs, which gives a natural feel, complementing the modern features of the architecture.

The area around Matetsi is abundant with wildlife, and the lodge offers a plethora of activities to take guests closer to the action. Guests can participate in game drives and walking safaris in order to spot a variety of animals such as elephant, hippo, lion and leopard, and there are birdwatching expeditions to find some of the 366 bird species in the area. Due to its proximity to the river, Matetsi also offers sunrise or sunset cruises, and the chance to take part in mokoro or boat excursions. Activities further afield can also be organized, and adrenaline junkies can try bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls bridge, or white water rafting on the Zambezi.

From the vegetable garden growing organic produce, to the natural materials used in construction, Matetsi River Lodge certainly takes its environment and conservation efforts into consideration, resulting in a unique luxury lodge in total harmony with its surroundings.

Matetsi River Lodge features two camps, each with nine suites, including two family suites. The suites are furnished with natural materials, in keeping with the overall style of the property. Location & Directions

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Around a 45-minute drive from Victoria Falls, Matetsi River Lodge is located on the banks of the Zambezi river, with 17 miles of private river frontage.

When to go

There are two very distinct seasons at the Victoria Falls, the wet/flood season and the dry season. These seasons do not reflect the quantity of rain, rather reflect the volume of flow of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river surges in size as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current. The falls are at their most dramatic at this time of year with huge columns of spray. The nights are cold and the days warm at this time of year. From around September to January the water levels drop, the falls are more accessible and views are clearer as the flow can drop in volume by 90%. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October through to February, this combined with high heat, 40 Celsius or more, in October and November, causes high levels of humidity.
