Khulu Ivory Lodge offers a luxurious base for your safari in Hwange National Park. With just six tented chalets, and one of only two lodges on a 6000 acre private concession, you can enjoy exceptional game-viewing without having to share it with anyone. The concession borders the western edge of Hwange, and has all of the wildlife the main park is famed for, including huge herds of elephants, who it's not uncommon to find having a drink from the swimming pool. Guiding is superb here, and guests can enjoy game drives, walking safaris and visits to the painted dog research center.
The lodge is named after a member of the Amalinda family, Ceddy, who, at the age of 72, decided to rebuild the lodge and bring it back to life. The locals affectionately know him as "grandfather", or "khulu" in the local language. He wanted to share this beautiful corner of Africa with the rest of the world.
Each of the tented chalets is raised on wooden platforms and faces a waterhole and dry riverbed which are a magnet for wildlife, particularly elephant. Each has been designed to combine style and comfort, with both an indoor and outdoor shower and electric blankets for those chilly evenings.
The main mess area overlooks a firepit, which forms a central point for relaxing and sharing stories with other guests before and after dinner. Meals are served on the deck or out under the stars.
Enjoy game drives in both the camp's private concession and the main Hwange National Park.

Khulu Ivory Lodge is located on a private 6000 acre concession bordering the west of Hwange National Park, around three hours' drive from the Victoria Falls.
When to go
From mid May through to early August the days are warm and clear but the night time temperatures can drop below freezing. September through to May is generally hot in the day and warm at night, Hwange sees rain from late November to April.
The best time for game viewing is from August to early November, water is scarce, the bush has died back and game congregates around the pumped waterholes. Birdlife is prolific during the rainy season, and although the game has dispersed due to readily available surface water, this is still a great time to experience Hwange as the National Park hums with life.
