When to go
Most of South Africa has a very sunny climate, averaging eight to ten hours a day throughout the year. However, there are regional variations worth being aware of.
The eastern coastlands and the interior experience their rainy weather during their summer months (Dec to Feb), whilst the southern coastal regions have their most changeable weather during the winter months (Jun to Aug).
July to November is a great time for whale watching, when the Southern Right whales visit the southern coast.
If you are heading inland to spot big game, May to August is ideal as the temperatures have dropped, the foliage is less dense and there are fewer crowds.
There are spectacular displays of wild flower on the Western Cape between August and October. Rates are still reasonable at this time of year and beaches are relatively empty.
