Le Quartier Francais is a beautiful country inn in the heart of the French Huguenot village of Franschhoek. The Auberge combines the atmosphere of a European retreat with warmth and familiarity.
There are 15 en-suite rooms and two suites overlooking a charming garden and the four ‘Four Quarters’ private suites face their own private courtyard and pool. The rooms are spacious with a comfortable sitting area and are cosily furnished in a contemporary South African style.
The Four Quarters suites are larger with an emphasis on design in vibrant colors and modern art. Guests may request breakfast in their rooms, at the pool or tucked away in a secluded corner of the garden. The restaurant, La Petite Colombe, is renowned for its contemporary cuisine (including excellent tasting menus), country hospitality and fine regional wines.
Golf courses and other sporting facilities, such as mountain biking are close by, and the area has an abundance of vineyards, wine cellars, galleries and country shops, not to mention exquisite forests and valleys. Le Quartier Francais will gladly pack a superb picnic basket should you wish to make the most of exploring the area.
Le Quartier Francais offers 21 rooms split between nine Auberge Rooms, three Grande Rooms, three Petit Garden Suites, two Suites and four Four Quarter Suites. All rooms feature under-floor heating, complimentary wireless high speed internet access, flat screen TVs and DVD players, complimentary access to the DVD and CD library and wood-burning fireplaces.
Children are welcome but no facilities are available for them except babysitting. Attractions kids will love in the Winelands area include Monkeytown, the Franschhoek Motor Museum, Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens and the Stellenbosch Toy Museum. There are also a number of activities at the Spier Estate, outside Stellenbosch and for a chance to see some of South Africa's abundant wildlife the Cheetah Outreach Facility, Eagle Encounters, the Drakenstein Lion Park, Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm and Butterfly World are highly recommended.
Facilities at the hotel include 'The Screening Room', where you can enjoy a selection of movies while sipping at delicious local wine, 'La Petite Colombe', a gift shop and the spa, B.gorgeous which offers a range of indulgent treatments.
The restaurant is well known for its sumptuous Cape cuisine and extensive wine list. The lounge and bar offers creative cocktails, drinks and delicious and unusual bar snacks.
During your stay, explore the village's quaint shops, galleries, the chocalaterie, charcuterie or enjoy wine tasting, fly fishing, horse riding and golfing. Franschhoek is the gourmet capital of South Africa and has an abundance of great cafes and restaurants and more than 40 wineries to visit. Other activities in the area include golf (Pearl Valley and Paarl golf courses are only a 15 minute drive away), tennis, hiking, bike excursions, paragliding and helicopter trips.
Location & Directions
Le Quartier Français (the French Quarter) is situated on Wilhelmina Street, in the French Huguenot Valley of Franschhoek, in the Cape Winelands.
When to go
The Winelands are a wonderful year-round destination and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in Franschhoek is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere. The best season visit is September to March when it is hot, sunny and dry. From April to August it cools down with some rain.
