Wait A Little Riding Safaris provide guests with an exhilarating safari experience, traversing through the game reserves of north-east South Africa on horseback. With a base in Karongwe Game Reserve, to the west of Kruger National Park, Wait A Little Riding Safaris offer a chance to get up close to big game such as elephant, lion, rhino and cheetah, to name but a few.
With groups of just six or seven guests, confident riders can benefit from a high level of personalized and specialized service thanks to the extremely experienced guides. Guests will spend between five to nine nights exploring the 8,500 hectares of Karongwe as well as the neighboring Greater Makalali Game Reserve, staying in a variety of accommodations.
Accommodation used throughout the safaris includes the Wait A Little main camp, XiDulu private camp, Beacon Rock sleep out point and Garonga Safari Camp. The safaris each start with three nights at the Wait A Little main camp, in traditional and comfortable safari tents on platforms looking over the Makhutswe River. From here, the destinations vary depending on the chosen route, but each safari offers the opportunity to canter through the woodlands and open plains of the reserves as the endless views stretch out before you.
The Wait A Little Big Five safari runs year round, while the Garonga Ride and Fit for Safari options have more limited departures. The temperatures during the day between April - September are more pleasant than other months (although nights can be cool) and offer a better opportunity to spot wildlife, from giraffe and zebra to hyena and wild dog.
Accommodation varies depending on the safari chosen, but will include a stay at Wait A Little main camp, as well as XiDulu, Beacon Rock or Garonga Safari Camp.
Children over the age of 12 are welcome on Wait A Little riding safaris, providing they are competent riders.
During a trip with Wait A Little Riding Safaris the main activity is, of course, horse riding. Guests need to be confident, competent riders, as the time on horseback varies from four to seven hours per day. As well as riding, game drives are on offer at both XiDulu and Garonga Safari Camp for the chance to spot even more wildlife.

When to go
There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning.
