There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning.

Steeped in early history of Londolozi - unique, peaceful and remote, this wild untrammelled wilderness is still the defining experience at Pioneer Camp. The six cottages have interiors that conjure old English indulgence with an African twist. Evident colonial characteristics include elegant cream teas and silver teapots. The camp has a feeling of leisurely indulgence.
With just five chalets, the camp is enchanting and intimate. This is the safari in the classic style, with classic black and cream ticking fabric and original mahogany beds. Deep leather sofas, military chests and compass safari lamps, create a mood of easy luxury and a laid back welcome to families and travelers alike.
A campfire has burned here for over 80 years making Varty the symbolic heart and soul of Londolozi. The decor echoes tones of the architects continuing love affair with the earth. During building, great care was taken with every tree, reflecting the families passion for sustainability. With a down to earth quality, children are more than welcome. All rooms have a private swimming pool, the living spaces are raised off the ground and shaded under a cathedral of trees.
The Tree Camp has been coined the most stylish family run camp in Africa. With its six suites, the camp has a double dose of glamour. It continually transcends guests expectations. Elegance and perfect simplicity are hall marks. The suites all have private a swimming pool.
The three stunning Granite Suites are perfect for a couple wanting to escape to the African bush in these stunning and very private suites. Each suite has its own heated plunge pool.
Londolozi Private Game Reserve offers five camps with six cottages, eight suites and 13 chalets, many with private plunge pools. Londos is split up into 5 different camps each with a different feel and price point. At the hub of each camp is a main lodge, a communal open plan space with lounge at one end and a huge deck and restaurant looking out over the Sand River. The lodges are all lined up along the river and within walking distance although staying in one youd have little clue the others were there.
What really struck me about the section of the river that the property is built on is quite how lush and green it was, the granite plates that break up the rivers flow are covered with palms and bromeliads making it feel far more exotic than in other parts of the Sabi Sands.
Because of the variety of the individual lodges Lonodolozi caters very well for everyone. Certain lodges are for adults only where as others such as Varty and Founders are that much larger and accept children from 4 years and up making them perfect for families.
4WD Game Drives
Go on private or shared game drives in the world famous Greater Kruger Area, South Africa to see the Big 5 - lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino - and a host of other animals. The Kruger is also a brilliant spot for birders so pack some binoculars.
Search for leopard in the Sabi Sands
The Sabi Sands is widely regarded as one of the most rewarding regions for spotting leopard in Africa. With good populations and the ability to go on night game-drives which coincides when these big cats are most active, all you need is good timing!
