Lion Sands Kruger National Park is one of only seven private concessions in the Kruger National Park. A 5,000 hectare (12,500 acre) private concession with the highest concentration of Black Rhino in South Africa. It is the only private reserve with access to both the Sabie and Sand rivers enhancing diversity of game viewing.

Narina Lodge is one of Lion Sands' two nine tented camps on the banks of the Sabie River, along with sister camp Tinga Lodge. Lion Sands believe they can offer guests true escapism through the attention to detail they offer in this stunning location, and with such incredible game viewing.

Each of the huge suites offers guests an indulgent private base for their safari, luxurious accommodation consists of king size or twin beds with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers and baths with views over the river. There's a separate sitting area, and sliding doors lead out onto the private deck, complete with plunge pool and a shaded sitting area.

Guests visiting Lion Sands must take the opportunity to stay in one of the jaw-droppingly cool treehouses. Perched high on stilts, these platforms offer the chance to spend the night out under the stars in the heart of the South African bush.

Children above the age of 10 are welcome at Narina Lodge, however, there are no specific facilities provided for them. The guides at the lodge are excellent at customizing the safaris to engage younger guests.

The list of activities at Lion Sands is a long one! Guests can chose to take part on morning and evening game drives in open safari vehicles, or head out on bush walks. The guides are all trained experts on the more specialist areas of bird watching and astronomy. Enjoy lovely surprises such as bush breakfasts, bush dinners, river walks, safari lunches, wildlife lectures, boma dinners, wellness treatments, visits to historically significant sites and local village experiences.

Location & Directions

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Lion Sands Kruger National Park is situated in the Southern Kruger National Park. The two lodges, Narina and Tinga are both located on the banks of the Sabie River.

When to go

There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning.
