Description
Eagles Crag Lodge enjoys a secluded spot tucked into a valley in the Shamwari Private Game Reserve, in South Africa's Eastern Cape. Just nine suites offer the ideal base for exploring this Big Five reserve on safari for couples and honeymooners.
Shamwari Private Game Reserve covers 25,000 hectares in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, offering a superb big five safari experience in a malaria-free region. There is a strong conservation emphasis here, with countless awards recognising the work being done here, which includes a partnership with the Born Free Foundation.
Eagles Crag Lodge is a luxurious safari lodge catering to couples and honeymooners, tucked away in a secluded spot in the reserve. There are nine beautiful and spacious suites, each with a lovely deck and private heated plunge pool, offering the ideal place to unwind during the midday siesta time. Each of the stone and glass suites are built into the hillside, designed to enjoy views of eagles which are often seen catching the thermals.
There are two lounges, each with fireplaces and terraces, offering plenty of space to relax and read a good book, or chat to other travellers. The relaxation retreat has two therapy rooms, a sauna and steam room as well as a hydro bath - ideal if you're feeling a little weary after your journey or an exciting day bumping around in a safari vehicle.
The proximity to Port Elizabeth means it's easy to combine a safari in the Shamwari Private Game Reserve with stays in Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg, with regular flights linking all three. It also combines brilliantly with a journey along the Garden Route.
Accommodation
Nine suites are available, and can convert between twin and king beds. Each has a private heated plunge pool and deck, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower as well as mod cons such as hair-dryer, airconditioning, safe and tea and coffee making facilities.
Childcare
Eagles Crag does not cater to children. For families, we suggest considering one of the other Shamwari properties such as Riverdene or Sarili. Our Travel Consultants can talk you through the options to find what will suit you best.
Activities
Game drives in open-sided vehicles with knowledgeable safari guides, game walks and visits to the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
