Shamwari Game Reserve covers 25,000 hectares in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, offering a superb big five safari experience in a malaria-free region. There is a strong conservation emphasis here, with countless awards recognising the work being done here, which includes a partnership with the Born Free Foundation.
Eagle's Crag Lodge is a luxurious safari lodge catering to couples and honeymooners, tucked away in a secluded spot in the reserve. There are nine beautiful and spacious suites, each with a lovely deck and private plunge pool, offering the ideal place to unwind during the midday siesta time. Each of the stone and glass suites are built into the hillside, designed to enjoy views of eagles which are often seen catching the thermals. There's even a telescope in each suite for keen bird-spotters to make use of!
There are two lounges, each with fireplaces and terraces, offering plenty of space to relax and read a good book, or chat to other travelers. The relaxation retreat has two therapy rooms, a sauna and steam room as well as a hydro bath - ideal if you're feeling a little weary after your journey or an exciting day bumping around in a safari vehicle.
The proximity to Port Elizabeth means it's easy to combine a safari in the Shamwari Game Reserve with stays in Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg, with regular flights linking all three. It also combines brilliantly with a journey along the Garden Route.
Seven king bedded suites and two twin bedded suites. Each has a private plunge pool and deck, telescope for bird viewing, fan and air-conditioning, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower as well as mod cons such as hairdryer, safe and tea and coffee making facilities.
Eagles Crag does not cater to children. For families, we suggest considering one of the other Shamwari properties such as Riverdene or Sarili. Our Travel Consultants can talk you through the options to find what will suit you best.
Game drives in open-sided vehicles with knowledgeable safari guides, game walks and visits to the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary, Ian Player Rhino Awareness Center and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
