The Twelve Apostles is the perfect place for anyone looking to have an out of the way base to explore Cape Town from. Sitting on the main deck with a fantastic view out over the ocean we were in for a rare treat and spent twenty minutes watching a group of fifteen Pilot Whales make their way past the hotel. With either sea view or Mountain facing rooms to chose from you are always in for an amazing view and its almost too hard to chose between them!

Just ten minutes from the hustle and bustle of Camps Bay, The Twelve Apostles has one of the best views in Cape Town. Enjoy lunch on the deck and try and spot The Southern Right Whales out to sea.

It is ideal for families and if you have not hired a car or don't fell like driving there are daily shuttles to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Camps Bay. The spa here is one of the best hotel spas in Cape Town and is perfect for anyone wanting to escape a potentially rainy day and enjoy a treatment or two.

Sink in and soak up the view: From a butler to draw your perfect bath to picture-worthy panoramas, the world's best hotel tubs

Everywhere you look in Cape Town you seem to be confronted by spectacular scenery, from Table Mountain to the pretty Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, and it's no different when you check in to the Twelve Apostles Hotel. Just behind the luxurious retreat, the 12 rocky outcrops that lead towards Table Mountain and give the hotel its name, soar skywards. Ocean-facing rooms also look out over a rocky bay below which boasts its own shipwreck.

Book a stay in the Presidential Suite and you'll have unobstructed views of the coast all to yourself as you sip Champagne in the glorious marble bath tub, there's even candles dotted around to help you soothe away the stresses of the day. And we're not the only ones that think so, luxury tour operator Scott Dunn recently included the hotel in its list of the perfect show-stopping tubs.

Located on the road out of Cape Town towards Hout Bay The Twelve Apostles is perfect for getting away from it all. The hotel sits raised above the coastal road proudly looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. You can hear its waves crashing from the terraces of the sea view rooms. Although only completed 12 years ago the hotel has a real sense of place about it and definitely is one of the more traditional and conservative of the Cape Town hotels.

With two pools split for quitter couples and rampaging children it ensures everyone is at their most comfortable and relaxed. The spa is one of Cape Towns most prized and very busy amongst locals so do phone ahead to reserve treatments.

We ate at the hotels flagship restaurant Azure combines incredible ocean views with innovative modern cuisine. The Springbok was lean and full of flavor. We stayed during winter and the restaurant was packed out so again a reservation in advance would be advisable particularly for weekend evenings.

Twelve Apostles will work for people returning to Cape Town who do not need to be in the heart of the city and would prefer a more resort style experience relaxing by the pool and enjoying the spa.

In a location out on its own, midway between Camps Bay and Llandudno Bay, on the coastal road. 12 Apostles is sandwiched by the ocean on one side and the mountains stretching up behind. There are two pools, one, the rock pool, a bit noisier that is popular with children, and another, the ocean pool, that is much quieter for those wanting to relax. The hotel can provide you with picnics to take with on walks in the mountains or day trips. They have also recently started a gym buddy program with their staff, you can go for a bike ride, a run or even a round of golf with one of the staff members who all have their gym kit at the hotel ready for the request!! The road can be noisy, particularly in the morning and evening when commuters into the city tend to use it to avoid other queues over the mountain in to the city. With this in mind I would suggest a room that is slightly back from the front, or, substitute a sea view for a dramatic view up to the craggy peaks behind.

The presidential suite was the room of choice for Lady Gaga on her recent tour. The marble bath tub is so vast it has to be ordered in advance so that the bath butler can come and fill it to warm the stone and refill for a bath!!

The interior has a maritime feel, lots of rails running along the double height corridors and paintings with a maritime theme lining the walls, its quite old school. 12 Apostles is a real Cape Town establishment and I dont doubt that anyone would have a great time staying here.

The bar is cool but not at all pretentious, a nice warm atmosphere. Dinner was delicious and again, while most people were in shirts and jackets, there were plenty who werent.

12 Apostles is a good option for someone wanting to be close to the action but who wants to feel a little removed from the city in a more private location with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. There is a shuttle service to take you to the beach at Camps Bay and some of the other hot spots.
