The best time to visit Namibia is between May and September, when it's cool and dry. Summer (November to March) is hot with heavy rains that sometimes make the gravel roads to the Namib completely impassable.
December and January see the main school vacations: so the coast is busier at this time.

Cornerstone's Atlantik Sicht is a three bedroom self catering apartment overlooking the sea front in Swakopmund on Namibia's picturesque Skeleton Coast. The apartment suits families or friends and is a perfect base from which to explore this coastal town.
Atlantik Sicht is one of three private self catering apartments owned and managed by Cornerstone Guest house, located a couple of streets away. All guests are met at the main guest house before being shown to the apartmentd situated a short walk or drive down the hill. The apartment is a fantastic option for those with a longer stay in Swakopmund seeking more space or for small groups or families traveling together for the ultimate privacy. There is one ensuite master bedroom and a further two double / twin bedrooms which share a bathroom. The interiors are light and airy with a distinctive modern Scandinavian influence. The focal point of the apartment is the open plan living area with its large lounge, dinning table and spacious fully equipped kitchen.
Guests staying at the apartment can choose to cater for themselves or take breakfast at the main guest house, a short walk away. Breakfast packs including bread, milk and jams etc can be requested in advance adding to the convenience. There are a good number of restaurants just a short walk away, or guests are welcome to make use of the Braai (traditional South African BBQ) and enjoy the private garden which overlooks the seafront.
Swakopmund offers a wide range of experiences for all ages including kayaking with seals off Pelican Point, sandboarding and quadbiking across the dunes, exploring desert life with experienced guides, or a day trip to Sandwich Harbour, a natural lagoon lying south of Swakopmund where dunes meet the sea. This area is Namibia's only marine reserve and is home to fantastic bird life including terns, sandpipers, flamingos and cormorants which all can be seen in large numbers.
The rooms here a simply decorated and very comfortable. The family rooms are perfect for a family of four and each room has an en-suite bathroom. The self-catered apartments are very spacious with three bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a separate living area and small kitchenette leading on to a private terrace with sea views.
Children of all ages are welcome and Cornerstone and the self-catered apartments are ideal for bigger families.
Using Cornerstone as your base, you are in the perfect location from which to enjoy all the activities on offer in Swakopmund from kayaking trips with the seals out at Pelican Point to dune boarding to visiting the local museums.

The private apartment, Atlantic Sicht, of Cornerstone Guesthouse was the ideal base for our few night stay in Swakopmund. You instantly feel at home as you have the freedom to do your own laundry, cook or simply spread out in this large apartment. Its location was perfect for getting to our activities in Walvis Bay or simply exploring the town and the service at Cornerstone was charming and kind.

The Lagoon at Walvis Bay offers a marine haven for birds and marine creatures. A morning kayak safari, when the water is calm is one of the best ways to observe the Cape fur seal colonies & flamingos. Dolphins and pelicans are also regularly spotted.
Living Desert Safari
This half day tour sets off into Swakopmund's desert terrain in search of its resident fauna. Your guide will seek out fascinating creatures such as specially adapted beetles, legless lizards and geckos. Particularly popular for families.

How to get there
Swakopmund is a straightforward drive from Windhoek, a journey of approximately five hours on a good tarmac road. It is also accessible from Sossusvlei in the south, and Damaraland in the north, so fits nicely into any driving circuit. Alternatively there are flights into Walvis Bay which is an hour's drive south, or light aircraft flights from safari lodges around the country.
