If you're visiting Sossusvlei, the best thing to do is avoid the summer, which is extremely hot. Therefore, the best time to visit southern Namibia is in winter (May and September) but bear in mind that the desert regions can be bitterly cold at this time of year. The climate of the southern coast is hospitable from February to May, but quite cool and misty year-round, and particularly windy in August.

Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is a sophisticated and luxurious lodge located in the beautiful Namib Desert. Ten stunning glass and brick villas offer privacy and magnificent views across the red, arid landscape towards the majestic mountains beyond.
Sossusvlei Desert Lodge has closed during early 2019 for extensive refurbishment. Due to open in October 2019, the lodge will be completely redesigned and refurbished to make it a beautiful luxury offering.
Experience the haunting beauty of the Namib Desert at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, situated in the foothills of the private NamibRand Nature Reserve. Ten spacious, air-conditioned, desert villas are encased in glass and stone to dramatic effect. Each features a shaded private veranda, a split-level bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a living room with fireplace, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Designed to capture the splendour and solitude of the desert, each villa is set along the curve of the escarpment.
There is a walk-in wine cellar and dinner is served in a glass-fronted dining room. The split-level main lodge features a fire-lit bar, comfortable sitting room, mezzanine library with CD and book collection, swimming pool, wraparound verandas and African gift shop. The lodge is also renowned for its exciting bush breakfasts and dinners in dramatic desert locations.

Miles McConnell (Staff)
Possibly my favorite camp that I visited on my last trip to Namibia. Sossuslvei Desert Lodge is set at the base of a small hill giving you a wonderful panoramic view out over the desert and to the dune in the distance. The staff however are what really made the trip that bit better with nothing to much trouble and unbelievable attention to detail paid to every aspect of your stay.
The rooms are all very private with views out over the desert and a skylight above the bed that looks out to the crystal clear sky that make the Namib desert such a hotspot for astronomers.
It is also perfectly positioned for those wishing to go on a early morning balloon flight over the desert (which is included in a 4 night stay).
&Beyond Wild Child program
Specially designed activities ensure your children get the most out of their safari experience, with activities such as tracking footprints and making traditional bows and arrows to add to game drives with their parents.
Hot Air Ballooning - Sossusvlei
The sand dunes of Sossusvlei are an incredible sight, particularly in the early morning when the colors change as the sun rises. What better way to view them than from above, drifting gently in a hot air balloon?
Red Dunes and Dead Vlei, Sossusvlei
On the edge of the Namib-Naukluft are the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei, a dune sea slowly marching towards the Atlantic Ocean.
