Dugong Lodge is a relaxed and friendly beach lodge found on the Indian Ocean coastline of Southern Mozambique. With just ten air-conditioned chalets and two two-bedroom villas Dugong offers an intimate hideaway.
Situated along the Southern Mozambique Coast within 30 000 hectares of pristine marine and wildlife territory in the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary, Dugong Beach Lodge combines two biospheres which make for a unique wilderness and beach experience.
There are ten spacious air-conditioned chalets under thatched canopies with hardwood floors, en-suite bathrooms overlooking a private courtyard, each with a walkway to the beach and a private sala and daybed. In addition, there are now also two villas housing two bedrooms each with a private swimming pool.
Guests can spend their days either enjoying the tranquil surroundings or taking advantage of the numerous activities on offer, including salt water fly fishing, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, sailing, picnics, pedal boats and kayaks. Swimming around the pier at high tide is a great place to spot the resident colorful fish. Many guests have also been known to spot dolphins while sailing from the beach in front of the lodge!
The nearby shallow and deep water reefs reveal beautiful sea creatures such as great and leatherback turtles, sailfish and manta rays. There is a very laid back atmosphere, and as there are no set times for meals, guests can begin their days as early or late as they choose.
Dugong Lodge offers 12 luxuriously appointed, air-conditioned chalets with direct access to the beach via individual walkways. There is a total of 14 bedrooms, as two units are villas consisting of two bedrooms with separate entrances. Each Villa has two bedrooms and a plunge pool. All rooms have outdoor showers and twin beds can be converted to double beds. Each chalet has a private deck furnished with day beds for relaxation or wellness treatments and where private dinners can be enjoyed.
Although there are no specific child care facilities, children are most welcome and babysitting can be arranged for those that require it. There are also two two-bedroom villas which work very well for families.
There is an interflowing swimming pool with an island-style bar and martini seats with spectacular views of the ocean. Sitting by the pool is therefore a perfect way to pass away your afternoon if you need some relaxing time. The lodge also offers a small library and a Curio Shop. Wellness treatments are offered in-room.
Dugong Lodge offers many activities both on and in the water and on land. Watersports include: snorkeling, kayaking, sailing (hobie cat dinghy), water skiing as well as dhow cruises, fishing and scuba diving. It is possible to arrange excursions to the nearby island of Bangwe and Margarugue. On dry land, nature drives and walks and bird watching with excellent guides are all on offer.
