Description
Uncharted Africa’s mobile safaris offer an amazing, authentic experience in the heart of some of the most iconic wildlife and culturally fascinating areas of Southern Africa: The Okavango Delta, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Western Kalahari, Nxai Pan and Tsodilo Hills. These exclusive mobile camps move with the game – Botswana’s wildlife moves constantly, and the mobile camps have the advantage of being able to pack up and move swiftly, often into extremely remote areas that other camps would not reach.
The Uncharted Africa mobile safari camps offer an incredible, exclusive experience, yet at the same time one which provides all the luxuries you could wish for. The tents are large and luxuriously equipped. In the evening, after an adventure-packed day, sit down to a delicious meal served under the stars with delicacies such as ostrich piccata and roast Botswana beef to tempt you. Freshly baked bread is brought to the table and the chocolate brownies are to die for!
The guiding on these mobiles is, as you would expect, superb. Expert guides, all trained by the legendary Ralph Bousfield, lead the trips. These qualified biologists and zoologists will introduce you gently to the wonders of the Okavango Delta, as you take guided walks and drives through the bush, or drift lazily down one of the delta’s deep water channels by boat, the best way to see the Delta’s many bird species. The days are filled with adventure but still with moments of calm – after a delicious lunch doze off in the mighty shadow cast by a towering baobab, before returning to your luxurious tented camp for dinner under the Milky Way.
Accommodation
The tents are large and luxuriously equipped. with real beds, flush loos, fluffy down pillows, pure cotton sheets, Persian rugs, silver cutlery, and everything classically styled in teak and brass, evoking the long ago days of the first explorers.
Childcare
CHildren of all ages are welcome to join in on the experience of an Uncharted Africa mobile safari.
Facilities
Due to the nature of the camp, facilities are limited. However, you will find yourself wanting for nothing, a central mess tent is set up, usually under a large shade tree. In the mess tent you will find the bar and a small, but carefully selected library. Comfortable campaign style furniture with soft cushions are a great place to lounge over an afternoon.
Activities
The activities you experience on a mobile safari are dependant on the location of the mobile camp. In the Okavango Delta, the focus is on game drives, there will also be plenty of opportunities to walk in the bush and skim through the winding channels and still lagoons by boat.
In the Central Kalahari, game is the focus, at certain times of year in particular the wildlife experience here is incomparable. A vast array of diverse species move through this huge protected area of central Boswana, large herds of eland and other antelope species are a common sight, the predators are in abundance here, led by the majestic black maned Kalahari lions.
Up in the Western Kalahari and the focus is on the Bushmen of the Ju'Wasi tribe. This experience is centerd on an interpretation of the environment through their eyes. Experience the thrill of the hunt with the men of the tribe, head out tracking and collecting edible bush foods with the women and children. Even get the opportunity to experience some of the more mysterious and spiritual aspects of this fascinating and ancient culture: join in the legendary healing trance dance.
