Surrounded by seasonal floodplains and a matrix of waterways and woodlands, Mapula Lodge is ideally located for anyone after an iconic Delta landscape and overall magical wildlife experience. With only a handful of camps located on the 22,000 acre concession, you can enjoy uncrowded game viewing in a stunning area of the Okavango Delta.
Sitting in front of a hippo-filled lagoon, Mapula Lodge is brimming with character and quirky touches making it a perfect Delta safari spot for anyone wanting a lodge with some personality and style. The large lounge in the main area affords a wonderful spot to relax in during an afternoon, with the sparkling swimming pool offering a place to stay cool on hot Delta afternoons where you can enjoy views over the lagoon.
The main reason to stay in this incredible part of the world is for the wildlife, and Mapula offers plenty of opportunities to head out to explore the concession and all it has to offer. Morning and afternoon game drives are the perfect way to explore large areas to try and find as much game as possible, from elephants and buffalo to big cats, wild dogs and some incredible birdlife. Water levels in the Delta are highest from April to October, making this the best time to explore the numerous waterways by boat or mokoro where you will likely see small reed frogs, dragonflies and birds. For a birds-eye view of the Delta get up early to take a hot air balloon flight over the waterways and do some game viewing from above (this activity comes at an extra cost).
Mapula offers nine canvas and thatched bedroom tents, including six twins, 2 doubles with large king sized metal four-poster beds, and one family unit with a double and two singles. Bedrooms have been finished with rich Kilims on the floors, polished butler trays, fluffy feather-filled pillows and comfortable furnishings to make it the perfect retreat after a long game drive. Every room comes with an en-suite bathroom with indoor showers, as well as outdoor showers for the more adventurous.
A large main area includes a comfortable and stylish seating area, a small library, a dining area and a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the lagoon in front of the lodge. A sunken deck area also makes the perfect spot to look out over the lagoon, or to enjoy the stars of the night sky.
Daily activities are included at Mapula Lodge, guests have the option to go out on morning and afternoon game drives across the concession, go fishing (from April to November) and head out on boat trips and mokoros when water levels are high enough. This area of the Delta is also a birdwatchers paradise. At an extra costs you could also head out on a helicopter flip to explore the Delta from the air, or take an early morning hot air balloon ride.

When to go
Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
