Description

At Kwando Lebala each of the tents are built on a raised teak deck, laid out with comfort and privacy in mind. The endless vistas from the large windows and decks, across the vast plains, make Lebala a great choice when visiting this area of Botswana.

The tented suites are spacious and comfortable, each have a reading and writing area, en-suite bathrooms with Victorian clawfoot bathtubs, "his and hers" washbasins and flush toilets. The bathrooms lead out to a reed enclosed open-air shower with hot and cold running water. Each tent has its own sundeck, and is set back among the trees.

The wetlands and flood plains around Lebala offer a good variety of wildlife with fairly regular sightings of elephant, hippo, lechwe, zebra, giraffe, impala, wildebeest, kudu, tsessebe, roan, sable, buffalo and the ever present predators; wild dog, lion, cheetah and hyena.

After dark, spotlights are switched on and the game drives expose our guests to nocturnal sightings of rare and elusive species such as, leopard, Selous Mongoose, small spotted genet, and aardwolf, to name a few. Nocturnal bird species that are encountered include Natal Nightjar, Pennantwinged Nightjar and a large variety of owls.

The guiding here is of a good standard, with the guides exceptionally keen to show guests the larger mammals and predators in the area, if you are keen to see as much big game as possible this is a great option.

Anna Hearn (Staff)

We loved Lebala when we visited and what really made it for us was the guiding we had an exceptional team in Jacko and his tracker Mr Moore, who worked in tandem to ensure that our stay was packed with incredible sightings from lions on a termite mound, wonderful elephant, and even to painted dog heading out to hunt, hunting, and making a kill. We were lucky enough to see the aftermath of this, and watch the pack as they excitedly bickered and fought over the carcass of the hapless impala they had pulled down mere seconds before. It made for a very exciting afternoons game viewing! We loved the relaxed feel of Lebala the rooms are spectacular, having been refurbished a few years back and each overlooks the floodplain in front with the exception of room 9, the honeymoon suite which overlooks the papyrus at the back of camp. Lebala retains a rustic charm nonetheless, and when we stayed the camp was hosting two families with children under the age of 12 - it was impressive to see how the staff looked after the children and ensured they had a brilliant time; the camp is clearly geared up for families and this shone through. All in all a really super camp with some fabulous guiding.
