To start planning your vacation to Private Desert Camp Erfoud
The Private Desert Camp is located 8 hours south of Fes, and some 10 hours from Marrakech – the dunes around Erg Chebbi are the best to be found in Morocco, and as good as anywhere in the Sahara. Although quite a distance from the main airports of Morocco, the experience of getting into this part of the country will more than make up for the long drive. In fact, the dramatic scenery en route to the desert is an adventure in itself, with some amazing boutique hotels to stop off at along the way.
Your Private Desert Camp is tucked away with high dunes enclosing you on all sides. There is a central courtyard which is draped in colorful Moroccan carpets, cosy sofas, tables and chairs. At the end of the camp there is a western toilet and hot shower. Your tent is a large marquee and contains two twin beds with cosy blankets for the cooler months, with a sprinkling of Moroccan wooden furniture and gas lamps.
In the late afternoon your camels will arrive and take you higher into the dunes where you can climb up and watch the desert change color against the changing glimmering-red sunset. You will return to a hearty Moroccan feast, prepared by the camp staff, with a range of drinks on offer.
As the night goes on, the stars come out, and a quick walk up the nearby dunes will expose a terrific display of shooting stars and crystal clear constellations.
Your camp is far more exclusive and private than the larger communal camps in the Erg Chebbi region. Although not to be regarded as totally luxurious by any means, you will be waited on by superb staff which makes the experience so enthralling – it is an adventure not to be missed if you want to get to the beautiful heart of rural Morocco.
Private Camps either have 1, 2 or 3 tents taking a maximum of six guests. The camps are always taken exclusively and your party will be the only guests there. Your spacious marquee style tent will have two beds and cosy blankets for those cooler nights. Gas lamps are provided in the evenings and there is a private bathroom facility with shower and staff on hand to ensure you have a pleasant and memorable stay.
Children are very welcome at Private Desert Camps but please be aware the facilities are very minimal and there are no specific facilities for children at all. As the camp is taken on an exclusive basis the staff can provide a very personalized service and children will be well looked after.
Camp facilities are minimal as one would expect from such an isolated camp but two dedicated members of staff are on hand to look after your every need. There are western style toilets and hot showers and wonderful Moroccan feasts are served for dinner for you to enjoy under the stars.
Camel safaris are included in your stay here but for an additional cost quad biking can be arranged. Zooming up and down the dunes is great fun and highly recommended!

When to go
Late autumn (September to November) and early spring (February to April) are the best time to visit, with daytime temperatures in the 20's and low 30's Celsius. You can also go in midwinter (December to January) if you don't mind the chilly nights (typically 5-10 Celsius). Midsummer (June to August) is best avoided, as blistering temperatures climb to the high 30's.
