Siwa & The Western Desert
Siwa Oasis is one of Egypt’s hidden treasures, a palm-studded hamlet in the middle of the vast Western Desert. Almost swallowed by the dunes of the Great Sand Sea, Siwa is an oasis of calm where traditional houses mingle with natural springs and winding tracks. It’s one of the Western Desert’s five oases, all of which have accommodation for intrepid explorers.
Engulf yourself in the dramatic landscapes of the Western Desert, including the Great Sand Sea, which stretches right to the Libyan border. The desert is simply crying out to be explored on foot, by camel or jeep. Sprinkled amidst the dunes are five oases, windows into the rural way-of-life. Siwa is the most remote, and it’s a joy to wander the tiny streets in-step with the local Berber community. Bahariya Oasis is also one of our favorites - a collection of fertile villages, surrounded by mountains, with Roman springs for natural relaxation.
