Bikes and kayaks come with each accommodation and are there to explore to island with. Take a snorkel or a fishing line and a picnic and spend the day exploring the waters. Guided nature walks

The resident conservation team offers guided informative nature walks around the island where guests can learn about current research projects and the endangered fauna and flora species on the island. The highlight of the nature walks is most definitely coming face to face with one of the giant ancient tortoises and spotting the nesting turtles.

Cycling round the island

A bicycle is by far the best form of transport to enjoy and discover the island and guests have the use of one for their entire stay. The tracks around the island are constantly maintained and lead to almost every corner and secret gem that the island has to offer. Why not let the resort pack you up a picnic basket for you to take away for the day to find a secret spot on the island?

Game fishing

Desroches Atoll has some of the greatest offshore angling that the Seychelles waters have to offer. What makes this area so rich in fish stock is the 1300 meter trench which separates Desroches from Poivre and St Joseph. Its offshore structure is ideal with a 38 km ring of sunken coral atoll, all surrounded by a sheer drop-off, teeming with both pelagic and reef fish. It is a prime fishing destination that continues to impress the well-traveled international game fisherman with its diversity and abundance of fish life. The area around the edges of the “Desroches drop-off” is famous for Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo, Giant Trevally, Bluefin Trevally, Green and Rosy Jobfish as well as a large variety of Snapper, Wrasse and Grouper, which can be caught by trawling, bait and switch, spinning, popping or jigging.

Fly fishing

There are some great spots, which depend on the time of year, wind direction, tidal movements and bait proximity. Species such as Snapper, Three Spot Pompano, Needle Scaled Queenfish, Grouper, Bluefin Trevally, Yellowspot Trevally, the occasional Giant Trevally and Bonefish can be caught. There is also the option of a three hour guided flats skiff fishing expedition that allows you to fish the outer edges of the reef while being poled along. To preserve the pristine ecosystem, a strict catch-and-release policy applies to all land-caught species of fish.

Scuba diving

Desroches Island is at the center of a coral atoll and natural marine sanctuary blessed with flourishing marine life and multi colored coral outcrops. Protected from commercial fishing practices and 230 km from Mahé-Seychelles, the isolated location of Desroches Island ensures that scuba divers can enjoy an aqua marine spectacle like no other. With over 18 classified dive sites to choose from and a vast amount of virgin reef still to be explored, Desroches Island is arguably the best place in the Seychelles for scuba diving. Forming part of the Amirantes outer islands (considered some of the most pristine and untouched islands in the world), Desroches Island offers a pure diving experience – from easier dives for beginners up to challenging sites for experienced and more advanced divers.

Desroches is located 230km south west of Mahé. Situated four degrees south of the Equator, Desroches Island is part of the Amirantes Group of islands and is approximately six km long and 1.5km wide, with 14km of immaculate white soft sandy beaches and crystal blue waters.

When to go

Situated just south of the equator, the Seychelles have a warm tropical climate. The consistently warm tropical weather makes the Seychelles a good year round destination.

There is little fluctuation in warmth, with temperatures ranging from 24C to 31C all year round. From May to October a southeast trade wind can bring marginally cooler weather and fresh breezes. From November to March the northwest monsoon wind blows, typically raising temperature and humidity. December and January are the wettest months, but the rain falls in short sharp bursts before the sun comes out again.
