Average time to visit
Any time of year is fine for a visit except from January to March, when heavy rainfall in many areas can make some roads all but impassable, and when there’s a high risk of cyclones in the east and northeast. In general, the best time to travel in most areas is April and October/November. The coolest time to travel anywhere is during the dry season (May to October).
Average maximum temperatures vary from about 30°C in coastal areas (higher in summer) to around 25°C on the hauts plateaux. In Antananarivo and other highland areas, temperatures during winter can drop to 10°C and even lower during the night.
Tsarabanjina is a tiny, lush volcanic island with wonderful white sandy beaches, abundant coral and untouched marine life. With just 25 thatched bungalows, this is a real Robinson Crusoe island with a very relaxed atmosphere.
Fringed by white sandy beaches with extraordinary birds, lush vegetation and encircled by coral reefs, the region is bathed in sunshine all year round. Tsarabanjina is a sacred islet. On the small peninsula of the eastern beach you can find the tomb of the Sakalava kings of the Mitsio islands. Up to this day the people of the Mitsio islands venerate this place; they come here bringing their offerings (money, honey, rum...).
Tsarabanjina lies 60km off the coast of Madagascar. The lodge has 25 attractive thatched bungalows made of local materials dotted along the north and south beaches under the shady palms. There is a good bar and restaurant serving fantastic fresh seafood and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. There are several private beaches which make Tsarabanjina perfect for the escapist, and the diving, fishing and snorkeling here are hard to beat.
Accommodation is in 25 bungalows, split between the South and North beaches, looking out on the sea with private terraces built from rosewood and a palm thatched roof.
Every bungalow is unique, each one bearing the name of a flower, a tree or a fish. The bungalows consist of the main bedroom equipped with fans, a bathroom with shower, twin sinks and a separate toilet, a private terrace with deck chairs and coffee table.

The 12 villas located on the beautiful, secluded South Beach have air-conditioning in the sleeping area.

For each villa there are two loungers and one umbrella provided on the beach.
|North Beach Villa||

Although there are no specific child care facilities, children over 4 years are very welcome. Food and meal times can be adjusted to suit the younger guests. Babysitting can also usually be arranged if parents fancy a bit of time out from child care duties or an evening to themselves.
The facilities on offer at Constance Lodge Tsarabanjina include a tennis court, volleyball court and a library. There is also a dive school offering scuba diving. Meals are served in the restaurant, in the mezzanine above the bar overlooking the sea, cuisine consists mainly of freshly caught sea foods.
There is also a helipad on the island.
Catamarans are available on the beach, with or without coaching. There are also kayaks to go rowing around the island. Mask, flippers and snorkel are available to borrow for the whole duration of your stay to help you discover the giant aquarium of the Mitsio seas. There is a Tropical Tennis court in the center of the island. For an additional fee scuba diving, sports fishing and massages can be arranged - the scuba diving is fabulous with a huge variety of marine life to be found.
Annie Foot (Staff)
A private desert island which is perfect for those looking for a laid-back beach stay with amongst the best diving and snorkeling that Madagascar has to offer. For those wanting direct beach access from their villa go for the South Beach, whilst if you cant live without air-conditioning you should stay on the wilder North Beach. Enjoy exploring the island where you can find your own slice of beach paradise and make sure you are in the perfect spot to enjoy sunset its sure to be spectacular!
We challenge you to wear shoes at Tsarabanjina (we challenge you to pronounce Tsarabanjina, but that's another matter). This is barefoot luxury at its best, the kind of desert-island experience that will stay with you, haunt you, make you realise that every beach from now on will not live up to this one. Off the north coast of Madagascar, Tsarabanjina is an ancient volcanic utopia that has a jungly heart swarming with birds in lurid colors and chameleons the size of your fingernail. Beaches sprinkled with gem-like shells slope gently into sea so clear you can watch a kaleidoscope of fish wheel around your ankles. Regally waving palms shade the 25 bungalows, which are right on the sand but with glass to keep out the critters. Only the bed is air-conditioned (so cool, so eco), and for daytime there's your hammock slung between the trees. Staff can't do enough for you: shake up a mango martini, sling a just-caught lobster on the grill, take you out diving the reef or tuna fishing to meet islanders flinging nets from dugout canoes. Book room 14, on a raised peninsula for private tanning, zone out, and remind yourself that things will never be quite the same again.
