Situated only 6° south of the equator, Zanzibar enjoys ideal holiday weather. Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day.
There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April and May, but even then it does not rain every day. These rains replenish the Island and are often referred to as the “Green Season”.
Zawadi is a small boutique hotel on Zanzibar's south east coast, with just nine guest rooms dotted along the cliff enjoying sublime views of the Indian Ocean. There is a small spa, swimming pool and an idyllic beach accessed by steps from the lodge.
Zawadi Hotel Zanzibar is the latest addition to the Zanzibar Collection which comprises Baraza, Breezes and the Palms. Like its sister hotels, Zawadi shares a reputation for excellent service and delicious cuisine with lots of fresh seafood. The hotel is located on the south east coast of the island, enjoying stunning sunrise views and dhows sailing past on the horizon.
The lodge and villas are strung along the cliff and decorated in understated driftwood beach style, and with no dress code this is a place with an air of barefoot luxury and a relaxed ambiance. There are just nine villas, each spacious and enjoying beautiful sea views of the Indian Ocean and plenty of private space.
There is a pretty cove with a sandy beach just a few steps away. Here, even during low tide, there is always water in the lagoon for swimming and snorkeling. Water sports can easily be arranged, with boat trips for snorkeling or diving on the reefs nearby, sailing and kite surfing in season and there is a PADI Rising Sun Diving Centre on site.
With a minimum age of 16, adult guests at Zawadi are able to relax by the infinity swimming pool, in their own personal plunge pool, at the ocean-view bar and dining area, or with one of the spa treatments available in the privacy of your room's terrace which will definitely help to ease you into holiday mode!
There are nine private villas with en-suite bathrooms (free standing bath, walk in shower and double vanity), seating areas, huge double beds (with memory foam mattresses), closet area and views of the ocean. Each villa measures 100 sqm and is accompanied by a spacious private terrace and plunge pool bordered by bougainvillea and palm trees.
The minimum age at Zawadi is 16 years. For a more family-focused hotel, we'd recommend Zawadi's sister properties Baraza or Breezes.
Zawadi offers guests a variety of relaxing facilities including an infinity swimming pool, a breakfast and lunch dining area with pool bar, and an evening restaurant serving exotic cuisine combining local spices with a fresh mantra of "just caught" and "just picked". Retire after dinner to the evening bar and lounge or enjoy a massage at the spa or on a private terrace.
There is a watersports desk where you can arrange a variety of activities to make the most of the superb marine environment near here. Book snorkelling or diving trips which take a boat out to the reefs, learn to dive, try your hand at kite-surfing (seasonal) or sailing.
Sailing in a dhow, the traditional sailing boat used in Zanzibar, is the best way to view the island's coastline. Sailing in the late evening to watch the sun set is the best time of day and is wonderfully romantic.
