Paje Beach where the Zanzibar White Sand Villas are situated is one of the best beaches on the island with fine white sand and turquoise waters. The villas are very private and tucked away by wooden fencing and lush gardens. Each villa has a comfortable living area and the suites are very minimalistic in their design and hugely spacious with huge sliding doors to let the sea breezes flow through. The bathrooms have indoor and outdoor showers and a unique outdoor bath set under the palm trees. There are one-bedroom villas, two-bedroom villas and a vast five-bedroom villa, ideal for families.

With its year round winds and calm, shallow waters, Paje is known for being one of the best kite surfing spots in the world and the hotel has its own kite surfing club which offers lessons to suit all abilities, equipment rental and also paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking and Blo-karting (a form of land yachting in a 3 wheeled buggy). The watersports center is open mid-June to mid-September, and mid-December to mid-March each year. The hotel is a popular spot with keen kitesurfers during these months and you can expect a buzzing atmosphere. At other times of year this is a peaceful spot on the island, but bear in mind there is little in the way of activities on offer when the watersports center is not open.

The restaurant at the hotel overlooks the central pool and gardens and serves fresh seafood and locally-inspired dishes. The cuisine is tasty home-cooking rather than international fine-dining. In the summer months the rooftop bar is the perfect spot for a dinner under the stars. As you find in many Zanzibar hotels, the service is friendly but not always as intuitive as you may find if you've been on safari beforehand. The staff are on hand to help if you ask, but don't expect five-star resort slick service, it's very difficult to find on the island on the whole.

The villas are all beautifully designed in a minimalist way, and hugely spacious. The one-bedroom villas are set right on the beach with uninterrupted sea views, a private pool and a spectacular roof terrace. The two bedroom villas are perfect for families and are set on two levels with a separate living area and a private pool.

The main living area has a comfortable lounge and dining area and in room dining can be organized on request. The five-bedroom villa is ideal for larger groups and you really can have a completely exclusive experience here with villa dining a huge private pool and direct beach access. The bedrooms are air-conditioned but the lounge areas are not.

Children of all ages are welcome at Zanzibar White Sands and the private villas are perfect for families.

Restaurant and in-villa dining (additional cost and limited menu), bar and rooftop lounge. There is also a small spa with open-air treatment rooms, a sauna, pool and relaxation area.

The Kitesurfing on Paje is best from mid-June through to September and during this season there will be trained instructors at the school offering lessons for complete beginners to advanced kite surfers. You can also buy a 12 hour lesson package ideal for beginners and you will be on the water in no time at all!

The club also has a wide range of activities including paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkeling and the staff can also organize a range of tours further a-field. These include diving trips, swimming with the dolphins, dhow trips and tours of the spice plantations on the island. Do bear in mind that the watersports club is only open from mid-December to mid-March and from mid-June to mid-September each year so at other times of year there are no activities on offer directly from the property.
