Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day. There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April, but even then it does not rain every day. Mawimbi Villa is not available for hire during May.

Located on Ushongo Beach, 16km south of Pangani, Mawimbi Villa is an idyllic retreat tucked away on the eastern coast of Tanzania. A two-storey villa sleeping up to 12 guests, this private villa offers a secluded space for families or groups of friends to relax and enjoy each other's company.

Mawimbi Villa has a large open-plan kitchen, which guests are welcome to use, however there is a dedicated private chef on hand to create delicious meals using fresh, local ingredients. Dishes are customised according to guests' tastes, and can be served in any of the three comfortable dining areas the villa has to offer. Within the landscaped gardens of Mawimbi Villa lies a saltwater pool, and just 20 metres away are the white sands of Ushongo Beach. Serene and unspoilt, this is the perfect place to relax and truly unwind, looking out over the tranquil Indian Ocean. For those looking to stay active, there is a range of watersports available on the beach, from kayaking to paddleboard and snorkelling, as well as scuba diving at Maziwe Island Marine Reserve. Try your hand at dhow sailing, or even visit Zanzibar island by boat! For an unforgettable experience, guests can visit a nearby beach with expert guides to watch turtles hatching, a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
There are six bedrooms at Mawimbi Villa, sleeping a maximum of 12 guests. Rooms are decorated in natural tones, designed to complement the beach, garden, and the surrounding area. Each ground floor room has outdoor access, and the first floor rooms all lead out to the terrace. All rooms offer views towards the Indian Ocean, and are comfortable, light and airy. Some provide en-suite facilities.
Children are more than welcome at Mawimbi Villa. A secure family space, one of the bedrooms contains bunk beds, perfect for two children.

Meals at Mawimbi Villa are tailored around guests' preferences. Menus are created according to personal tastes, and are served when and where guests wish, in one of the three dining areas or packaged up for a picnic. Fish and seafood is caught nearby by local fisherman, and the fruit and vegetables are locally-grown. Raw juices, smoothies and cocktails are all on offer, as well as a fine selection of wines and spirits.
Mawimbi Villa has its own 12-metre saltwater pool within its gardens. On the beach, guests can try a variety of watersports such as kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing. Visit the village of Pangani for a cultural walking tour, or even a nearby beach to watch baby turtles hatching. Take a boat over to Zanzibar island for a day trip, or head to Saadani National Park, just 50km away, for a day spent spotting elephant, giraffe and even whale and dolphin.

Mawimbi Villa is located on Ushongo Beach, 16km south of Pangani on the east coast of Tanzania.
How to get there
8.5 hour international flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi and then a short flight to Dar es Salaam. Mawimbi Villa has its own airstrip, accessible by light aircraft from Dar er Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar airports, as well as the main Tanzanian safari destinations.
