Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Description

Set on the plains of Grumeti Reserve in the path of the great wildebeest migration, Singita Sabora Tented Camp is the ultimate for a luxury camping experience in a small, intimate camp comprising of just nine stunning safari tents.

The private Grumeti Reserve is a 340,000 acre (140,000 hectare) safari destination bordering the Serengeti National Park to the north east. It is part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem and sits in the path of the great wildebeest migration, producing excellent game viewing.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp is a small and very stylish tented camp set on the plains of the Grumeti Reserve. Decorated in 1920s grand campaign style, each of the nine tents comes fully equipped with four-poster bed, flush loo, rolltop bath, air-conditioning and telephone. Every two tents share a ‘library’ with a desk and two chaises longues.

In addition to day and night game drives, guests can play tennis on the outdoor court, take a dip in the pool and enjoy short drives in Sabora’s two vintage cars, as well as make use of the facilities at Sasakwa Lodge. Sabora is completely unfenced so animals are free to wander through and around the camp and they come to drink at the nearby watering hole which the camp overlooks. This is the ideal base for couples and families, with just nine safari vehicles (for three camps) covering an area almost the size of the Maasai Mara.

Best for ambience & design - With a choice of four places to stay, Singita Grumeti Reserves is on a 340,000 acre private concession created by US billionaire Paul Tudor Jones II on the edge of the Serengeti National Park. The nine-cottage Sasakwa Lodge provides the most luxurious accommodation, with beautiful, colonial-style decor, private infinity pools, four-poster beds and claw-footed bathtubs. Sabora Tented Camp comprises nine sumptuous Bedouin-style tents on an open plain; the more cutting-edge Faru Faru Lodge has nine stone, canvas and thatched suites in shady woodland on the Grumeti River. An exclusive new mobile camp, Singita Explore, was launched in June 2011.

X-factor 'The South African design group Cecile & Boyd's has created four wonderfully evocative worlds at Singita Grumeti,' says Gold List contributor Peter Browne. 'Each is distinctive, multi-layered and lavishly attended to. The detailing is just sensational.'

Singita Sabora Plains is the ultimate tented safari experience. The rooms are all equipped with all the traditional safari items but done in a stylish twist. Think roll top baths, leather luggage trunks, writing tables, lanterns, beautiful wraught iron bed and stunning rugs. You feel like you are taken back 50 years how safari's first began, it is incredibly elegant and unbelievably comfortable - nothing has been forgotten. This is camping like you would never have imagined - there is even air conditioning in the tents!

The tents all look out onto the Serengeti plains, during the wildebeest migration huge herds of wildebeest and zebra will be munching and grunting all around camp!

Not only are the tents gorgeous, but the Singita service, quality, guiding and food make your stay incredibly memorable!
