Lake Manze Adventure Camp is located on the shore of Lake Manze in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve in Africa.
The central area of camp is a large open-sided thatched lodge with a dining and sitting area. The design of the lodge catches the gentle breezes that the camp's lakeside position benefits from.
This area is one of the richest year round game locations in the entire Selous. Elephants are regular visitors throughout the day and night. They move through the camp on their way to drink from the lake, often fantastic sightings can be seen from the stone verandah of your tent. Maasai askaris are always on hand to guide you between the lodge and your tent, this is particularly important at night as there is always a stream of game moving through the area.
Each of the 12 tents are slightly raised on earth mounds and sited under the shade of clusters of shady doum palm trees. The tents are of a traditional Meru design with cooling fly sheets and mesh fronts and windows to allow a breeze to pass through them. Each is ensuite with an attached dressing room and bathroom area behind the main section of the tent. Lighting at night is provided by candles and lanterns, there is a fan which is powered by solar energy, besides this no electricity is available in the tents.
Activities at Lake Manze include boat safaris, on the lake itself or down the channel running towards the Rufiji River, walking safaris and game drives. All timings of activities are flexible and the guides in camp have a great understanding of the area so it's often best to listen to their suggestions.
Lake Manze Adventure Camp is a 'no frills' bush camp. This is not a luxurious camp, but it is comfortable and the experience of being here in this wild environment is truly memorable.
Lake Manze Adventure Camp has 12 walking Meru Style tents, each with a private verandah. Each tent has a flush loo and an outside shower.

When to go
Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, typically considered the best months for game-viewing as the wildlife is more concentrated around water sources and the grass is grazed and trampled down. Selous and southern Tanzania is typically hot and humid from December to May, without a dry period to break up the rains, so travel is not recommended during the British winter months.
