Description

Set amidst the rolling hills and acacia trees of the Maasai Mara, a stay at Bogani offers a truly special experience. As part of the Me to We Charity, activities at Bogani focus on the Maasai and Kipsigi communities that surround the camp and provide guests with an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural and social environment of the area.

As part of a longer itinerary, a 3-night stay at Bogani offers a chance to fully explore the livelihoods of the local people, spending time with the women of a beading circle, learning about herbal medicines or Maasai weaponry, meeting school children and participating in one of the charity’s development projects. As the focus here is on the society and culture of the area, we would suggest combining it with a stay at a traditional safari camp to discover the incredible wildlife of Kenya. Accommodation at the camp is simple yet comfortable, spread throughout the verdant landscape in cottages or tents. With local art adorning the walls, and colorful furnishings that take inspiration from the area, the rooms are a restful place to retire to after a day of activity. Meals are freshly prepared by the onsite chef, using local ingredients, and taken in the open-sided restaurant, under a tented roof of vibrant local fabric. A Me to We experience at Bogani is one that is likely to stay with you long after your return. It is perfect for couples or families looking for an immersive and safe opportunity to discover a way of life completely removed from their own, one that can change perspectives. We would suggest that it is best suited to older children who can engage with and take part in the activities.

Accommodation

With cottages and tented accommodation, both couples and families are catered for at Bogani. The rooms are colorful, taking inspiration from the surrounds, with art and furnishings reflecting the local communities. While simple, they are also comfortable, with flushing toilets, hot running water, and electricity.

Childcare

We would suggest that the activities are best suited to older children, and there are no specific facilities for children.

Activities

The main focus of a stay at Bogani is the activities, with daily trips included in the itinerary designed to create a fully immersive experience. While the specifics of a trip may change according to community projects or local celebrations, as part of a 3-night itinerary you may share a meal with the women after fetching water, take part in a community project, and hike with a Maasai Warrior as they teach you about herbal medicines and weaponry.

Location & Directions

Maasai Mara and Southern Kenya, Kenya

Bogani Cottages and Tented Camp is set in the rolling hills of the Maasai Mara, a short flight from Nairobi into the Great Rift Valley. From the Maasai Mara gate it is a two hour drive north to the camp.

When to go

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. If you are looking to combine your time at Bogani with a classic safari, the best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara for wildlife is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.
