The main season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot.
Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.

Elsa's Kopje is an idyllic wilderness retreat situated close to the untamed expanse of Meru National Park. Nine spacious open-fronted thatched cottages blend into the hillside and look out over breathtaking views of the plains.
The lodge at Elsa’s Kopje has been sensitively designed using local materials to blend in with the surrounding hillside and is located close to the original camp where George and Joy Adamson released Elsa the lioness into the wilds of the Meru National Park.
The Meru National Park is ideal for those looking for something off-the-beaten-track and is well known for its bird life, with riverine and forest species as well as the arid dry country species. Regular sightings include elephant, white rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. The Meru National Park also incorporates a 84km rhino sanctuary, home to about 70 black and white rhino, however finding the rhino in such a large wild area requires sharp eyes and a certain amount of luck!
The accommodation consists of nine open-fronted stone cottages with stunning views over open plains. Each cottage has a thatched roof and en-suite bathroom, with baths and showers built into the rocky hillside.
Children are very welcome and there is even a family cottage, which provides additional space for younger guests to have fun. Elsa’s Private House has been built into the hillside on the site of George Adamson's original camp in ’Born Free’. It sleeps four and is perfect for small families, furthermore, it has its own small swimming pool.
Elsa's Kopje is owned and managed by experienced guides whose knowledge will help provide the ultimate in safari experiences, an experience that will stay with you forever.

They are all open-fronted and offer very elegant safari style décor with stunning views. It is also possible to rent Elsa's House which accommodates 8 to 10 guests.
There are 7 cottages with double en-suite bedrooms, each cottage has it's own deck and is open fronted with amazing views across Meru National Park.
There are 2 cottages which have en-suite twin bedrooms. All the cottages have a private deck and stunning views across the Meru National Park.
The honeymoon suite is a 3-tiered cottage with a sitting room, main en-suite bedroom and a small private deck. Twin beds can be added to turn this suite into a family room.
Elsa's Private House is set in it's own private garden with infinity pool. There is 1 double room and 1 twin room, a dining room, sitting room and lovely views over the Meru National Park.
Children of all ages are very welcome at Elsa's Kopje. Children under the age of 5 stay at the lodge free of charge. Elsa's Kopje has a two bedroom family house which works very well for families and they can also add extra beds into many of the cottages to accommodate families.

The lodge also offers massages, pedicures and manicures for those of you who are seeking a bit of pampering. There is a small shop where you can buy your essentials.
Owned by professional guides, the lodge's emphasis is on a complete safari experience and the activities on offer include: day and night game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals, sundowners, cultural visits, day excursions to the Tana River with a packed lunch, line fishing for catfish and barbel, swimming pool, massages and a day trip to Adamson Camp in Kora.

As you approach Elsa's Kopje you can just see a hint of a lodge hidden amongst the rocks of Mughwango Hill as it is cleverly sculpted into them in such a stunning style.
Elsa's has to be my most favorite Lodge in Kenya now - not only for the unique design, the very warm welcome, the outstanding cuisine and views to die for, but once shown to my room my jaw dropped - wow doesn't cover it! And what's even better is that every room is different but has its own wow factor from stunning views to unusual baths that are filled by a cascading set of steps like a waterfall!
And what's more is the location - it's rugged and remote so you feel like you have the place to yourselves and the variety of wildlife did not disappoint! From zeals of zebra and journeys of giraffe to the largest herd of elephant we'd ever seen - Elsa's really is a little piece of heaven, romantic or mysterious - whichever you prefer - I didn't want to leave!
