Mayleko lodge is a peaceful place to stay just five minutes outside Gondar, where there is much to see and do. The spacious stone bungalows with thatched roofs are constructed using reclaimed and sustainable materials, in-keeping with the Lodge's desire to minimize environmental impact with its practices. Each bungalow "blends traditional elegance with modern luxury" and have views across the agricultural land of northern Ethiopia and are set against the Dilha Mountain landscape.
Each bungalow has its own terrace to relax on or use as a vantage point to observe the views and wildlife that frequents the grounds, including colorful bird species. However cottages are fairly close together therefore areas are not completely private.
The food at the Lodge is very good and the staff are all really friendly and efficient, a trip to the restaurant at the top of the hill is a treat for more than just your taste-buds as its height makes it a fabulous view point. There is a computer that guests can use in reception but there isn't any WiFi, although for some this might be a welcome absence!
During your stay at Mayleko Lodge make sure you explore the local sights and immerse yourself in this land of emperors and princesses of a bygone era. The castles of Gondar are a must, especially with a guide that can tell you their stories and history. We recommend a visit to the Four Sisters restaurant for lunch, an Ethiopian eatery which, as you may have guessed, is run by four sisters. Located close to the exit of Fasil Ghebbi or the Royal Enclosure (where the castles are) the sisters offer traditional and western cuisines in comfortable surroundings where you are treated as one of the family.
All accommodation at Mayleko Lodge is located in spacious and cosy but rustic round bungalows/cottages. There are four categories of room and 21 cottages in total; Single Rooms (one double bed), double rooms (two double beds in the same room), King Rooms (King size bed) and Suite Rooms (King size bed).
Each bungalow has a private veranda overlooking the mountain or the beautiful garden and lush mini forest. The room is elegantly furnished with a full size bed and a modern en-suite bathroom (shower, not bath).

When to go
The best time to visit Ethiopia is from mid to late October until May. During this time the highlands are ideal for hiking especially after the rainy season has just finished as the landscape bursts into life.
Due to the high altitude of the country in comparison to its location conditions get quite cool at night. Temperatures generally can reach above 30°C in lowland areas, whereas the highland temperature can dip below 20°C. Addis Ababa has a relatively even temperature year-round.
